Damaging Wind in Pennsylvania, April 30, 1996

A severe thunderstorm caused wind damage in Richlandtown and Nockamixon and destroyed or badly damaged about a dozen homes and businesses in both locations. Damage estimates were around $550,000. No serious injuries were reported. The storm struck Richlandtown first about 415 p.m. EDT. Dan's Auto Service was badly damaged as concrete block walls were pushed over. Part of their roof was found two fields away. Four other homes along Richlandtown Pike were damaged. One was immediately condemned as it was pushed off its foundation. Another house lost its roof. The deck was ripped from another house. Shingles were removed from another house. The outer walls of three garages were also blown down. Farther east in Bucks County the same thunderstorm caused wind damage in Nockamixon Township near the intersection of Pennsylvania State Routes 412 and 611 at 425 p.m. EDT. Damage started at Aspen Ford as the thunderstorm blew away a couple of showroom doors and a display tent. Damage then followed Route 611 as five homes suffered roof damage, two completely lost them. Two garages and two sheds were also badly damaged sending debris flying. One home lost a porch. Wind damage also occured at the local drive-in. No serious injuries were reported.
