Hail in New Mexico, August 30, 1996
A cluster of intense storms moved over Curry and Roosevelt counties with heavy rain, hail and about 45 minutes of high winds. Winds reaching 60-80 mph and wind-driven hail to dime size produced considerable window and roof damage to homes and structures in both Clovis and Portales.

A cluster of intense storms moved over Curry and Roosevelt counties with heavy rain, hail and about 45 minutes of high winds. Winds reaching 60-80 mph and wind-driven hail to dime size produced considerable window and roof damage to homes and structures in both Clovis and Portales. Several homes in Portales suffered severe damage. Heavy rains also caused flooding with reports of 3 inches of rain in less than an hour over eastern Clovis which produced flooding of car dealerships and water 6 inches deep in a number of road side motels. No injuries were reported.
