A large supercell thunderstorm moved slowly south across western Dawson county during the evening. Hail reports to the size of softballs were common around Gothenburg. Siginificant damage was incurred by automobles and homes. The large hail broke windows, punctured roofs and damaged siding. Downburst winds destroyed a small building east of Gothenburg and blew out the back window of a vehicle on Interstate 80 southeast of town.
