Thunderstorms brought torrential rain and gusty winds to several towns in western and central Franklin County. There were many reports of trees and power lines blown down in Ashfield, Deerfield, Greenfield, and Whately. A flash flood occurred in Ashfield, where washouts were reported on Route 116 and Creamery Road. Street flooding was reported in Greenfield. Flooding in Millers Falls closed Route 63 in the downtown area. Mudslides and flooding damaged the Ashfield Inn, the Greenfield Senior Citizens Center, and several homes in Greenfield. Electric power was knocked out to 5,800 homes and businesses in Greenfield, Ashfield, and other communities near the Massachusetts-Vermont border.
