Remains of an old western Pacific typhoon moved into the northcentral Pacific Tuesday and early Wednesday. The low curved northeast as an intense 972mb center...by Umnak Island (just west of Dutch Harbor) early Thursday. The low then moved into the east central Bering (about 180 miles west of the Pribilofs) and began to weaken slowly late Thursday and Friday. Strong southeast winds preceded the front associated with this low. Additionally, Moderate to strong southwesterly winds were reported on the "back" side of the low...over 45 mph. Gusts at Cold Bay, where winds are channeled even more, reached 67 mph on Thursday at 9:45 am...with gusts above 40 mph reported from 3:30am to 4pm.
