As an east-west warm front moved northward across north-central Texas during the early afternoon, strong thunderstorms developed and became severe producing a series of small tornadoes from Ellis/northern Navarro Counties northeast into Hunt County. Some wind damage and large hail was also reported in these storms. During the early evening hours an intense line of thunderstorms formed across western parts of north Texas and moved rapidly eastward. A supercell developed within the line across Western Palo Pinto County around 1900 CST and by 1920 CST was producing large hail south of Palo Pinto. During the next two hours this storm would produce numerous reports of large hail, high winds, and four tornadoes. The first south of Mineral Wells at 1942 CST, the second near Millsap at 1948 CST, the third in South Fort Worth at 2040 CST, and the fourth in Dallas at 2102 CST. Total damage for the Fort Worth and Dallas tornadoes is estimated at $10 million.
