A small tornado touched down on the north side of the small community and skipped southeast entering neighboring Woodcock Township before lifting back into the clouds. Numerous trees were downed. Seven homes and several cars suffered minor damage from falling trees.

A severe thunderstorm caused widespread damage in the city of Mercer. Most of the damage was due to large trees falling onto houses. In addition, several garages were blown off their foundations, the aluminum siding was stripped off the side of one house and the roof was blown off of another. The director of the Emergency Management Agency reported that in the city of Mercer 42 homes were damaged, one mobile home destroyed, one mobile home damaged, 10 apartments damaged, and one business damaged. Structural damage was also reported to an inn and to two historical sites. About 50 trees were downed at the Spring Valley Golf Course, one and one-half miles west of Mercer. Trees were also downed, 17 homes damaged, and two mobile homes destroyed about 10 miles east of the city in the village of Millbrook in Worth Township. About 7,000 people were left without power after the storm hit. It was determined, after a damage survey that included eyewitness reports and an aerial assessment of the damage patterns, that straight line winds with microburst speed maximum of up to 150 mph caused the damage.
