Thunderstorms producing hail up to golf ball-size and wind gusts up to 80 mph caused extensive crop damage across the southern portions of Sherman and Howard Counties, northern Buffalo County and western Hall County. Hardest hit was Sherman County, which sustained $3.5 million in crop damage. Several grain bins were destroyed while numerous trees and power lines were downed. Two tornadoes were also spawned by the storms. In Grand Island, the roof of a high school building was damaged by the thunderstorm winds, and 1,000 vehicles and numerous houses suffered hail damage. Hail accumulated into drifts. The hail, combined with rainfall amounts up to four inches in less than one hour, caused minor street flooding in Grand Island.
