A fast moving squall line preceding a strong Arctic cold front produced strong to severe thunderstorms with wind gusts of 40 to 60 mph. Some locations experienced gusts in excess of 60 mph. Trees up to three feet in diameter were blown down in Agawam and West Springfield. Autos and some homes were hit by falling trees. Trees fell onto and damaged at least three houses including one each in Westfield, Longmeadow, and Agawam. Falling trees knocked down wires and blocked Route 20. There were scattered power outages.

The National Weather Service recorded a wind gusts to 64 mph at the Municipal Airport, where a mobile home was blown up against a fence. In Spencer, $9,000 worth of aluminum roof panels were blown off a building and two motor vehicles were damaged by the falling panels.
