A cold front moved across Vermont during the late afternoon and evening hours of July 2nd resulting in severe thunderstorms across parts of the state. Thunderstorm winds downed trees and powerlines with Chittenden County being hardest hit. In Colchester, Burlington, and Essex thunderstorm winds downed numerous trees and powerlines leaving a number of communities without power for many hours. In Essex lightning struck a garage setting it on fire.
