Thunderstorms developed in a moist, southwest flow ahead of a cold front. Thunderstorm winds downed trees and power lines. On Route 96 in Tompkins County twenty to thirty large trees were downed.

A cold front moved across eastern New York during the afternoon and evening of July 2nd resulting in severe thunderstorms across parts of the area. Thunderstorm winds downed trees and powerlines in some areas with Ausable Forks and Horseshoe Lake being the areas hardest hit. In Keeseville lightning started a fire which destroyed a house.
