Early morning severe thunderstorms formed over the South Plains. These were caused by a cold front moving toward the area from the north, a retreating dryline, and an upper level disturbance approaching from the southwest. One-inch diameter hail fell at Lubbock International Airport, and an off-duty National Weather Service employee reported one-inch diameter hail in Shallowater. Crosby County Sheriff's Office reported dime-size hail in Ralls and Crosbyton at 0416 CST. Dickens County Sheriff's Office reported power lines down about one mile north of Spur. Minor wind damage to portable buildings was reported in Guthrie at 0535 CST by the King County Sheriff's Office.
