An 18 year old female and a 19 year old male were overtaken by a large wave at la Poza del Obispo beach in Arecibo, when the couple was seated near the shore, and a large wave sucked them out to sea. The male was rescued but the female's body was never found.

The coastal road along La Pared sector of Luquillo near the Sandy Hills Condo was occasionally flooded by the breaking swells. Several body surfers had to be rescued since they could not paddle back to shore. Residents of Playa Fortuna also reported swells breaking into their neighborhood.

What this means

A best track is the record a warning agency settles on after the storm, not what it said at the time: position, maximum sustained wind and central pressure every six hours, revised against every observation that came in later. Category is the Saffir-Simpson scale, which runs from Category 1 at 64 kt to Category 5 at 137 kt and reads wind only, so it says nothing about surge or rain. Accumulated cyclone energy adds up the square of the wind through the storm's life, so it counts strength and duration together.
