July 14, 1876, S of Qingtongxia, Ningxia Autonomous Region, 37.8 N, 105.9 E, magnitude 6.5, intensity VIII.
All city walls and houses in Xiongzhou Prefecture were ruined. The ground sank at many places and jets of water gushed out. Many casualties were reported. The shocks lasted for a month.
Note: The seat of local government of Xiongzhou Prefecture was located near the present day Guangwu, S of Qingtongxia. The present day Zhongning, Ningshuo and Zhongwei counties were under the jurisdiction of Xiongzhou
Prefecture.
