Singer et. al (1983) reported a tsunami wave at Cumana, with an uncertain link to an earthquake. O'Loughlin and Lander (2003) inferred that that the hurricane of November 4-10 (causing 2500 fatalities in Cuba, Jamaica, and The Caymans) may have provided the trigger to set off an earthquake and the resulting wave.
