Pir Hasan Shah in Tarikh-e Hasan records:"During the reign of Azad Khan in 1199 H (1784-85 AD) an earthquake struck the city (Srinagar). Most of the people of the city were thrown swinging in up and down motion. This condition remained for six months. Various residential houses and countless number of lives were lost.
The reign of Azad Khan and events of his times are recorded by Parmu (1969) also but Tarikh-e Hasan is the only source recording this earthquake. MM intensity might be VIII. The year 1199 H. corresponds to November 1784 to October 1785 AD.
