The earthquake damaged several buildings and wreaked havoc in the chapel of San Jose, the convent of San Francisco, and the church of Xochimilco.

One source reports that the earthquake was also felt in Oaxaca, Puebla and Veracruz. Fonseca and Orozco report this event as occurring on August 26. Due to the similarity of the descriptions and the fact that it is reported at the same time, it is assumed that all these reports refer to the same earthquake reported on the 20th of the same month. There are other reports that a strong earthquake destroys in 1612 the recently built Bullring in Mexico City (no date or day is given). It is probable that there is an error and it is the same earthquake reported here on August 20, 1611.
