During June and July of 1571 there was a major seismic crisis on Terceira Island. In Canto (1880) it is mentioned that the earthquakes, with probable epicentre located SE of Terceira Island, were also felt on S. Miguel and other islands in the central group of the archipelago. (reference #13057)
