...FLASH FLOOD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 515 PM CDT THIS
AFTERNOON FOR EAST CENTRAL JEFF DAVIS AND SOUTH CENTRAL REEVES
COUNTIES...

At 345 PM CDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms produced heavy
rain across the warned area. Between 1.5 and 2.5 inches of rain have
fallen. Flash flooding may continue due to runoff.

HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.

SOURCE...Radar indicated.

IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas,
         highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor
         drainage and low-lying areas.

Some locations that will experience flash flooding include...
  Star Mountain.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads.

In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are
potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded
roads. Find an alternate route.

- Isolated to scattered storm chances exist this afternoon,
  mainly across the higher elevations.

- Cold front approaches the region on Sunday bringing higher rain
  chances through Monday. Will be monitoring for heavy rainfall
  leading to flash flooding.

- The hottest temperatures of the season so far are possible by
  the middle of next week with many locations experiencing their
  first 100 degree day.

Today sees temperatures move a few degrees higher compared to
yesterday with many areas reaching into the low to mid 90s.
Temperatures near 100F will be seen along the Pecos and Rio Grande
River valleys. With slightly less upper level support available,
shower and storm chances will be slightly lower across the region
overall with the highest chances remaining over the Davis Mountains.
Convection should mostly decay overnight tonight, but a cold front
will approach Sunday morning. Rain chances will increase with and
behind the front as it acts as a focus for activity to develop
along. Temperatures south of the front will stay near to above
normal in the 90s. North of the front where cloud cover keeps it
cooler, temperatures may only reach into the 80s.

(Sunday night through Friday)

The cold front mentioned in the short term above stalls out across
the Permian Basin or as far south as the Pecos River Valley.
Scattered showers and storms will continue through Sunday evening
and into Monday morning. Moderate to heavy rainfall will be seen
with some of the more organized storms making flash flooding a
threat once again. A few storms may become strong to severe with
large hail and damaging winds being the main hazards. Rain and
clouds keep the region cooler with many areas only making it into
the low 80s. By that evening, rain chances decrease as a drier
northwest flow aloft takes hold. Tuesday will be drier with
temperatures moving back into the upper 80s to low 90s. The heat is
on for Wednesday and Thursday as low level flow shifts more
southerly to southwesterly. Wednesday looks to be the first day of
the year where Midland reaches 100F for the first time this year.
The average first 100F day at MAF is May 31st, so this is later in
the year than normal, but not unprecedented.

Ceilings have lifted above 3000ft which will continue through most
of the period. Breezy southeasterly to southerly winds (10-15 kts
sustained) are expected again this afternoon and early evening at
most terminals where occasional gusts up to 25-30 kts may occur,
especially at MAF and FST sites. Isolated TS is in store this
afternoon and early evening where highest confidence in occurrence
at CNM. Very low confidence remains at INK, PEQ, and FST. A cold
front is forecast to enter northern sites by tomorrow morning
(10-13Z timeframe). This will bring breezy northerly winds, along
with CIGs below 3000ft across most terminals.
