.KEY MESSAGES...

 - Isolated flash flooding risk for North GA through this evening
   due to slow moving thunderstorms in the area.

 - A low damaging wind gust threat exists for parts of North GA
   (does not include Atlanta), today and Sunday.

 - Heat index values approach triple digits by mid week as temps
   warm into the low to mid 90s.

It's a typical August afternoon in Georgia with temperatures
hovering in the upper 80s to low 90s (outside of the mountains) and
spotty afternoon convection ongoing. Plenty of surface instability
and LL moisture content will support a continued threat for
waterloaded downdrafts and locally heavy rainfall. Similar to
yesterday, there also remains an isolated risk for flash flooding
in North GA due to the slow nature of storms.

The forecast area will continue to remain sandwiched between two
areas of high pressure 1) over the western US and 2) the Bermuda
high over the Atlantic. This pattern is expected to hold through the
weekend with the only notable change being a gradual eastward shift
of the high to our west. This will result in our temperature
forecast trending upward as we head into early next week. The SPC
continues to highlight an isolated damaging wind threat with storms
that form across parts of North GA both this afternoon and Sunday
afternoon -- threat enhanced by the terrain. Environmentally
speaking, besides a slight uptick in moisture and instability for
Sunday things remain largely unchanged. That being said keep an eye
to the sky and remain weather aware if you're spending any amount of
time outdoors this weekend. Both storms and heat can escalate
quickly and it never hurts to be prepared.

Patchy fog and low clouds will continue to be a possibility each
morning right around sunrise, primarily in areas that receive a good
bit of rain. Outside of the North GA mountains, temperatures each
day are forecast to climb into the upper 80s to mid 90s. Heat
indices (or 'feels like' temperatures) will begin to approach triple
digit values particularly in parts of Central GA starting
tomorrow (Sunday). Overnight temperatures are forecast to range
from the mid 60s to low 70s.

(Monday morning through next Friday)

No major changes in the extended forecast. Continued summertime
diurnally driven convective pattern with triple digit heat index
values through the next 7 days. Conditions are expected to flirt
with heat advisory criteria through the week, especially across east
central portions of the state.

Fortunately, thunderstorms will be expected each afternoon which may
help ease temperatures during peak heating. There is pretty good
agreement that afternoon convection will form everyday for the
foreseeable future, though no strong signal for severe weather
exists with the limited shear in place. Strength of storms will
ultimately depend on heating.

01z, cigs above 10kft overnight, with Few to Sct Cu again by
15z Sunday. Widely sct tsra chances thru 23-00z with better
potential at the northern sites. MCN may see some patchy BR
between 10-14z. Light E to ESE winds up to 6kts thru the period.
Winds become vrb or nearly calm overnight.

County through 930 PM EDT...

At 856 PM EDT, a strong thunderstorm was near Canton. This storm was
nearly stationary.

HAZARD...Up to 40 mph wind, pea sized hail and frequent cloud to
         ground lightning.

SOURCE...Radar indicated.

IMPACT...Expect minor damage to tree limbs and blowing around of
         light, unsecured objects.

Locations impacted include...
Canton, Ball Ground, Nelson, Waleska, Buffington, Lake Arrowhead,
Salacoa Valley, and Reavis Mountain.

At 924 PM EDT, a strong thunderstorm was near Mount Bethel, or near
Mountain Park, moving north at 10 mph.

         ground lightning.
