.KEY MESSAGES...

- Scattered afternoon showers and thunderstorms through tonight,
  becoming numerous to widespread over the weekend.

- A few storms through this weekend may become strong to severe
  with gusty to damaging wind gusts up to 50-60 mph and locally
  heavy rainfall.

- Heat index values peak between 95-108 through Saturday. A Heat
  Advisory is in effect for portions of east central Georgia
  through 8PM and 12 PM to 8 PM Saturday.

A few showers and thunderstorms possible and hot temps again. The
area of high pressure continues to churns over the Atlantic and
keeps the southeast in an open warm sector, increasing diurnal
thunderstorm chances. To start the weekend, a few showers and
typical summer thunderstorms are possible. in the mid-levels, some
guidance traverses a weak shortwave across TN and into NC through
this evening, which if materializes, could enhance thunderstorm
severity. Guidance continues to highlight the northwestern portion
of Georgia for more thunderstorm coverage through this evening, with
additional storms developing overnight. The environment is
supportive of damaging winds as the primary hazard, but frequent
lightning and heavy rainfall are also threats from any storm that
develops. Best chances are in the NW portion of Georgia (50-70%) and
extending into the Atlanta Metro (40-50%). PoPs quickly decrease
southward into central Georgia.

As for Saturday, similar story with any convection and showers, this
time ahead of a weak frontal boundary. The northwest portion of the
state has the higher PoP chances (50-75%), but with decreasing PoPs
southward into central GA (30-50%). Given the additional moisture
advection, PWATs look to increase, supporting a more elevated chance
for heavy rainfall from any storm that develops. Showers and
thunderstorms look to become more widespread Saturday. The main
hazard from any storm should be damaging winds, heavy rainfall and
lightning. Current guidance shows rain totals of 1-3 inches for NW
GA, with locally higher amounts possible within strong thunderstorms.

As for the heat, the temperatures remain hot in the short term. Low
to upper 90s spanning from north to south with the hotter temps
toward central Georgia. Since we remain in an open warm sector and
an abundance of moisture still lingering, hot heat indices are still
on track for triple digits for today and Saturday, with a smattering
of 105-107 possible toward east central Georgia. Given the shower
and thunderstorm activity in the NW overnight and into Saturday,
guidance decreases the heat index for this area into the 90s. But,
for the east central portion of the area, a Heat Advisory in effect
through 8 PM. For Saturday, another Heat Advisory will be in effect
from 12 PM to 8 PM for the same location.

.LONG TERM...
(Sunday morning through next Thursday)

As the weekend comes to an end, the rain will continue as a
stationary boundary stubbornly refuses to release it's grip on the
southeast. Likely thunderstorm chances during the afternoon will
continue until Wednesday when we finally return to our normal
afternoon convection pattern. While widespread severe weather is not
expected, a few storms could be strong to severe with the primary
concern being damaging winds. Localized flash flooding will continue
to be a concern as we start next work week as some parts of northern
GA could see in excess of 3 inches of rain.

If nothing else, this gives a break from the heat. Heat Index values
will fall out of "awful" and into "miserable" for much of the area
with highs in the mid 80s. A few obs of 90 may linger across the SE
portions of the CWA. Once the front moves out on Wednesday,
temperatures will gradually rebound through the rest of next week
back into the 90s with apparent temperatures pushing triple digits
by next weekend.

SHRA/TSRA are possible through around 02Z, though a downward trend
in coverage is expected. Sct/bkn cu 3.5-5 kft will again redevelop
Saturday with sct SHRA/TSRA expected after 18Z, persisting into
late evening. Winds will remain W 4-10 kts.
