.KEY MESSAGES...

 - A Heat Advisory is in effect through 8PM Saturday for most of
   north Georgia. Afternoon heat index values may exceed 105
   degrees with overnight heat index values remaining close to or
   above 80 degrees.

 - Some storms may become strong to severe across portions of
   north Georgia this afternoon, capable of producing isolated
   damaging wind gusts.

Current satellite loop shows mainly high clouds streaming across
the region this morning. We are currently under the influence of a
high pressure ridge centered over KY/TN which is keeping us in
weak East to Southeasterly flow. There is also a weak boundary
laying across the MS river valley along the periphery of the high
pressure center. The proximity of this boundary will keep
isolated to scattered thunderstorms chances across North and West
GA Today and Sat. The ridge should help to keep any convective
development capped, but with very warm temps, Dewpoints in the
40s and 50s, and Capes expected in the 1000-2000 J/Kg range this
afternoon would not be surprised to see a few strong to severe
storms this afternoon. This is why SPC has North and West GA
(Interstate 85 corridor Northward) under a marginal risk of severe
for this afternoon/evening.

Temps Today and Sat will be mainly in the middle to upper 90s
outside of the NE GA mountains which will be in the 80s to lower
90s. This will allow heat index values to rise into the 100 to 109
deg range across the state. Have issued a Heat advisory for North
and portions of Central GA through Sat evening.

Warm with Daily Storm Chances Through Next Week:

A typical mid-Summer pattern will set up across the Southeast US
from Sunday through most of next week, as surface high pressure and
mid-level ridging build off the coast over the western Atlantic.
With nearly persistent southwesterly flow, moisture will remain
high, with elevated dewpoints creating afternoon heat index values
in the low triple digits each day. The heat and humidity will create
scattered to numerous afternoon showers and storms each day.
Depending on any subtle or large scale forcing, a few storms could
be strong to severe during this time period. Otherwise, we could
expect our typical summertime storms with gusty winds, frequent
lightning, and heavy downpours.

index values forecast to reach as high as 108 degrees.

Isolated to scattered thunderstorms are expected through early
evening across north Georgia. Several storms may become strong to
severe, capable of producing damaging wind gusts, quarter size
hail and frequent lightning.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Saturday through Thursday...

Hot conditions persist, with heat index values forecast to be in
excess of 105 in portions of North Georgia and 100 across central
GA.

Isolated to scattered thunderstorms are possible each afternoon
through the middle of next week.
