A frontal boundary remains stalled to the immediate north of I-85 as
the morning begins. Showers and thunderstorms have lingered along
the boundary through the overnight and early morning hours, and
additional development is forecast to continue for the next few
hours. Some stronger storms have been able to tap into deeper
moisture and produce rainfall rates in excess of 2 inches per hour
and produce localized flooding concerns. With wet soils and ample
low level moisture, patchy fog and low cloud ceilings will be
possible this morning. Low temperatures will largely range from the
upper 60s to low 70s. With upper level troughing moving away to the
northeast, there will be little movement in the position of the
boundary over the course of the day and thus little change in the
overall pattern. Increased cloud cover will once again help limit
high temperatures, particularly in central Georgia. Highs today will
rise into the mid to upper 80s in central Georgia and upper 80s to
low 90s in north Georgia.

Scattered diurnally-driven thunderstorms are expected this
afternoon, with the highest chances along and south of the frontal
boundary. As the front steadily weakens, there will be little shear,
though with SBCAPE between 1500-2500 J/kg and PWATs of 1.6-2 inches,
there will be a chance for the development of isolated stronger
storms capable of producing gusty microburst winds. Showers and
thunderstorms will gradually diminish after sunset with decreasing
diurnal instability. The threat for locally heavy rainfall will also
warrant continued monitoring, though it will be most likely to the
south of the fall line where where soils will be more capable of
handling it.

A broad upper level ridge over the Great Plains will begin to
approach the eastern CONUS on Sunday. The influence of this ridge
will kick off climbing afternoon highs into the early parts of the
coming week. It will also help suppress diurnal convection, leading
to more isolated storm coverage on Sunday afternoon.

(Sunday night through Friday)
Issued at 310 AM EDT Sat Aug 29 2026

High pressure will slowly build in over the course of the long term.
This will continue to decrease chances gradually of afternoon
thunderstorms while slowly increasing afternoon high temps and with
it heat indices. Temps will return to the mid 90s by the middle of
the week with widespread triple digit heat index values along and
south of I-85. A heat advisory may be needed for the southern
portions of the CWA as early as Monday.

Overnight lows will also be on the rise with the return of the mid
70s to much of the area. This doesn't do much in providing relief
from the daytime heat; especially for vulnerable populations. Look
after each other, and keep an eye on pets and kids. Stay hydrated if
you plan to spend time outside.

Thunderstorm chances during the afternoon will be down to less than
10% for much of the area through the week. As a result, the chances
of cooling off with an afternoon thunderstorm decrease with it.
Summer is still here and it's planning to stick around for a
while.

Thunderstorms persist along a frontal boundary stalled across
north Georgia, including in the vicinity of RYY and FTY. MVFR
ceilings have developed over ATL in the vicinity of these storms
as well. Wet soils and light winds will also increase the
potential for patchy fog and low (IFR/LIFR) ceilings at the ATL
metro sites during the early morning hours, with the most likely
time from 11-13Z. A scattered cu field between 025-040 will
develop by 15Z, which will be followed by another round of TSRA
this afternoon. A PROB30 for TSRA is being carried from 19-23Z at
ATL. Outside of storm outflows, winds today will be primarily E/SE
at 4-8 kts.
