Added some fog to the forecast across the Southern Tier tonight, as well as across the valleys of the Southern Tier and Black River Saturday night. && .KEY MESSAGES... 1) Patchy fog and low clouds early this morning. 2) Trending warmer this weekend and into next week. && .DISCUSSION... KEY MESSAGE 1...Patchy fog and low clouds overnight through early this morning. The last of the showers and thunderstorms ahead of an incoming cold front early this morning, will continue to progress east towards the eastern Lake Ontario region. In its wake, lingering moisture is supporting low stratus and fog to develop across western New York. The low stratus and fog wil continue to develop across the Niagara Frontier and western Southern Tier well into the morning hours before dissipating within a few hours past sunrise today. KEY MESSAGE 2...Trending warmer this weekend and into next week. Mid to upper level ridge will build across the Great Lakes this weekend before shifting east into the Northeastern portions of the CONUS throughout the course of next week. Temperatures will gradually increase by the end of the weekend and into early next week. Heat and humidity will then increase further throughout the middle and end of next week, which may result in the potential for heat-related headlines as the risk for dangerous heat indices increase. However, due to the potential for scattered showers and thunderstorms both Tuesday and Wednesday there may be some short- term relief from the heat. Stay tuned! && .AVIATION /06Z FRIDAY THROUGH TUESDAY/... A few showers and thunderstorms are currently passing east across areas south of Lake Ontario near Rochester as of 06Z. These showers will continue to progress eastward throughout the rest of the early morning hours towards dawn. Meanwhile, lingering moisture across WNY has supported low stratus and fog to develop across the Niagara Frontier and Southern Tier, resulting in a conglomeration of flight conditions ranging from VFR (outside of the low stratus/foggy areas) to MVFR/IFR within the low stratus and foggy areas including KIAG, KBUF and KJHW. The fog and low stratus will dissipate by mid to late morning, returning to VFR flight conditions for the afternoon. Much of the day today will be dry, with limited areas for showers and thunderstorms across the Saint Lawrence Valley and northern Adirondacks (mainly east and north of KART). A few showers may pass across the Southern Tier this evening, bringing some brief/local restrictions.
