...A strong thunderstorm will impact portions of central Chester and
western Delaware Counties through 715 PM EDT...
At 649 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm near
Parkesburg, or 12 miles southeast of New Holland, moving east at 30
mph.
HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 40 mph and pea size hail.
SOURCE...Radar indicated.
IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around
unsecured objects. Minor damage to outdoor objects is
possible.

West Chester, Coatesville, Downingtown, Kennett Square, Parkesburg,
Homeville, Cochranville, Chester Springs, Lionville, Marshallton,
Lionville-Marchwood, West Goshen, Atglen, South Coatesville,

.SYNOPSIS...
An area of low pressure will continue to weaken and get absorbed by
the main low pressure system that will be located across the northeast
states into the weekend. This low will eventually move out to
sea later Saturday into Sunday. For Sunday into Monday, high
pressure in place across southern Canada noses down into the Mid
Atlantic region. A warm front may move into the area early next
week, with a cold front possible by the end of the week.

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH FRIDAY/...
One wave of showers passed through the region late this
afternoon, and another wave is gearing up to pass through the
region early this evening. There are some rumbles of thunder as
well as some lightning in Delaware and southeast Pennsylvania.
Strong surface low pressure has lifted off to the northeast,
drifting past Cape Cod and up through the Gulf of Maine tonight,
where it will just slowly meander through Friday. Meanwhile, a
broad, deep upper-level low with an associated weaker surface
low is approaching from the west, passing across our region this
evening, then lifting up toward southern New England tonight,
before capturing the aforementioned surface low around the Gulf
of Maine on Friday. The region will continue to feel the
influence of this low pressure while remaining chilly and
unsettled overall.
Shower activity will last through this evening for some areas
even with the loss of daytime heating and instability, right
where the upper-level low tracks, particularly from around
Philadelphia northward. Showers should dissipate for the most
part toward and after midnight. Clouds may give way to some
breaks toward morning, with low temperatures dropping down into
the upper 30s in most spots by Friday morning.
Friday will be another chilly and mostly cloudy day overall, as
the mid and upper-level low off to our northeast continues to
advect cold air into our region. Some breaks of sun may occur,
particularly in the morning, but any of that sunshine will only
tend to backfire and result in more cumulus and stratocumulus
filling in. Global and NAM models are depicting minimal shower
activity, but hi-res models suggest at least some isolated
showers around once again for the afternoon, particularly north
and west of I-95, forced by another shortwave trough rounding
the upper-level low. Those showers will still be weaker and more
isolated than Thursday, but would not rule out a little graupel
briefly. Highs will be similar, if not a few degrees colder
than Thursday, mainly in the upper 40s to low 50s.

.SHORT TERM /FRIDAY NIGHT THROUGH SATURDAY NIGHT/...
Starting Friday night, but mainly Saturday and Saturday night, the
low will begin shifting offshore and out to sea. As the mid-level
low pinwheels to our northeast as well, multiple short
wave/vorticity impulses will move across the area. Some isolated
showers will be possible, but mostly likely remain across our
northern tier of counties. Snow showers will be possible across the
higher elevations of northeast Pennsylvania and northwest New Jersey
through the period, especially at night as temperatures cool.

.LONG TERM /SUNDAY THROUGH THURSDAY/...
By Sunday, the low pressure that has been lingering across the
northeast states will be moving out to sea, while high pressure in
place across southern Canada noses down into the Mid Atlantic
region. The high will continue into Monday before splitting, with
the southern portion moving to our south as a warm front moves into
the area Tuesday into Thursday. Dry weather is expected for Sunday
into Monday. However, as this warm front lifts into the region and
multiple short wave/vorticity impulses move into the area, there
will be increasing chances for precipitation Tuesday into Thursday.
A cold front is expected to move into the area late in the week,
bringing even greater chances of precipitation.

The following discussion is for KPHL, KPNE, KTTN, KABE, KRDG, KILG,
KMIV, KACY and surrounding areas.
Tonight..MVFR ceilings may still be found at times tonight.
Scattered showers, some with graupel (or small hail) may
continue until 03-06Z, diminishing thereafter. Westerly winds
5-10 kts. Moderate confidence.
Friday...Mainly VFR. Some isolated showers may pop up still once
again for the afternoon, particularly north and west of I-95,
but much less coverage and intensity than yesterday. Some very
brief MVFR conditions possible in showers. CIGs otherwise mainly
BKN 040-070. Winds W-NW 6-12 kt.
Outlook...
Friday night-Saturday...Generally VFR. Scattered showers possible
across northern areas. West to northwest winds 10-15 knots with
gusts 20-30 knots during the day. Moderate confidence.
Sunday-Sunday night...VFR conditions expected. North to northwest
winds 10-15 knots with gusts 15-20 knots during the day, diminishing
to 5-10 knots or less overnight. Moderate confidence.
Monday-Tuesday...VFR conditions expected. West to northwest winds 5-
10 knots, becoming southwest overnight, then back to westerly
Tuesday. Moderate confidence.

.MARINE...
Small Craft Advisory has been extended through Friday for the
ocean waters due to elevated seas and wind gusts to 25 kt
developing on Friday. For Delaware Bay, will hoist a SCA from
late tonight through Friday morning for a surge of NW winds
gusting to 25 kt.
Showers, and maybe even a stray rumble of thunder and small
hail, will be possible with scattered showers through this
evening, particularly around Delaware Bay.
Outlook...
Friday night-Saturday night...Small Craft Advisory conditions
possible for much of the coastal waters during the late week into
early to middle part of the weekend period.
Sunday-Tuesday...Conditions expected to remain below advisory levels
into early next week.

.HYDROLOGY...
We are just expecting a tenth or two tenths of an inch at most
of additional rainfall with scattered showers through this
evening, that will not exacerbate ongoing river and stream
flooding. Some areal flood warnings remain in effect with
smaller river and stream flooding occurring, and we have a slew
of river forecast points in MINOR flood, like along the
Schuylkill, Rancocas, Raritan and Passaic Rivers. The Millstone
River is in MODERATE flood, and the Passaic River will be slower
to crest (not until later Friday), and will also go into
MODERATE flood. Other river locations are near crest or have
already crested, and water levels will mostly continue to lower
today.
We attach words like MINOR and MODERATE to river flooding. What
do these words mean?
MINOR FLOODING: Minimal to no property damage, but some public
threat can be expected (e.g. inundation of roads).
MODERATE FLOODING: Some inundation of and roads near
streams/rivers are expected. Evacuations of people and/or the
transfer of property to higher elevations can be anticipated.
MAJOR FLOODING: Extensive inundation of structures and roads.
Evacuations of people are on a larger scale. The transfer of
property to higher elevations is needed.

.TIDES/COASTAL FLOODING...
Coastal Flood Advisories now continue along the tidal Delaware
River through into tonight. Continued fresh water contribution
from tidal waterways and tributaries along the river will likely
result in additional impacts near the evening high tide.
For Ocean and Sussex (DE) Counties, minor flooding continues
along the back bays. While surge values are lowering now with
the offshore winds, values remain elevated due to the southerly
swell and not much wind to help drain the bays. So we should
continue to see minor flooding and perhaps some localized
moderate flooding through the late afternoon and evening high
tide.
Westerly winds should allow for drainage of the bays through
Friday, so that if we do see any additional flooding during
those next high tide cycles, it should be minor and more
localized as time progresses.
