...A SNOW SQUALL WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 530 PM EDT FOR
NORTHEASTERN CARBON AND MONROE COUNTIES...

At 452 PM EDT, a dangerous snow squall was located near East
Stroudsburg, or 12 miles southeast of Mount Pocono, moving east at 40
mph.

HAZARD...Intense bursts of heavy snow. Gusty winds leading to 
         blowing snow and visibility rapidly falling to less than 
         one-quarter mile. Wind gusts greater than 50 mph could 
         knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects.

SOURCE...Radar and webcams.

IMPACT...Dangerous and life-threatening travel conditions are 
         expected to develop rapidly in the warning area.

This includes the following highways...
 Northeast Extension between mile markers 88 and 97.
 Interstate 80 in Pennsylvania between mile markers 280 and 309.
 Interstate 380 in Pennsylvania between mile markers 0 and 12.

Locations impacted include...
Mount Pocono, East Stroudsburg, Tobyhanna, Henryville,
Brodheadsville, Pocono Pines, Gilbert, Pocono Raceway, Lake Harmony,
Skytop, Tannersville, Mountainhome, Alpine Mountain, Rossland, Long
Pond, Albrightsville, Kresgeville, Sun Valley, Arrowhead Lake, and
Jonas.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Slow Down! Rapid changes in visibility and road conditions are
expected with this dangerous snow squall. Be alert for sudden
whiteout conditions.

Consider avoiding or delaying travel until the snow squall passes
your location. If you must travel, use extra caution and allow extra
time. Rapid changes in visibility and slick road conditions may lead
to accidents.

.SYNOPSIS...
Strong low pressure across southern Maine this afternoon will
continue to move northeast tonight and Monday. High pressure
builds to our west and south through Tuesday before shifting
offshore into Wednesday. A weak cold front may settle southward
into our area Thursday, then a stronger cold front and wave of
low pressure arrives later Friday into the upcoming weekend.

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH MONDAY/...
The primary concerns with the near term period will be rain/snow
showers and snow squalls that impact the area through early this
evening accompanied by the strong and gusty winds which will
continue through Monday.

A vigorous shortwave embedded in the upper trough slides through
the region this afternoon before moving off to our east tonight.
This has led to a numerous of scattered rain/snow showers to evolve
with even a few isolated snow squalls across the Poconos. Visibilities
may temporarily become reduced, so if traveling this afternoon,
it is recommended to take it slow. By 7-8pm, precip will be winding
down as the loss of the sun will significantly reduce any instability
that remains, except in the Poconos where some snow showers may
linger into the overnight hours. Any snow accumulations should
be minimal as ground temperatures are quite warm, however up to
an inch of snow is possible in the Poconos.

The other story is the wind which will be an area-wide impact. The
surface low that affected our region on Saturday has strengthened
significantly over the past 24 hours and is now ~984mb low over Maine.
With a large area of high pressure approaching from the southwest,
a very tight pressure gradient has ensued and will be in place
across much of the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic through Monday.
Taking a look at forecast soundings, winds aloft (more notably
at 850mb), will strengthen with a wind maxima around 50-60 kt
tonight into Monday. As our boundary layer will be well mixed
due to sufficient drying and with a strong push of cold air
advection, this should translate to peak wind gusts in the 45-55
mph range. Thus, the current Wind Advisories across the region
remain valid. Did consider upgrading Carbon and Monroe counties
to a High Wind Warning this afternoon, but held off for now.
However, would not be surprised if we mix down a 50+ kt wind
gust here on Monday. Will let future shifts determine if an
upgrade is warranted.

Otherwise, skies tonight should remain mostly cloudy as strato-cu
persists under northwest flow. As more dry air gradually works its
way into the region, skies will become more in the way of partly
cloudy before becoming clear Monday morning. Lows tonight will be in
the low to mid 30s for most, with upper 20s in the higher terrain.
Should warm back up nicely on Monday due to the clear skies and
efficient mixing during the afternoon, resulting in temperatures in
the 40s-50s.

.SHORT TERM /MONDAY NIGHT THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...
The first part of the upcoming week looks to feature a period of dry
and mild weather for early Spring. High pressure will be across the
southern Appalachians Monday evening and this high will gradually
move offshore by Wednesday. As this occurs, a ridge of high pressure
aloft remain across the Middle Atlantic. We will have fair weather
in the forecast and temperatures above normal Tue and much above
normal Wed. Max temperatures in the low/mid 60s Tue and mid/upper
60s Wed. Cooler temps will be found near the shore and across the
high elevations of the southern Poconos.

.LONG TERM /WEDNESDAY NIGHT THROUGH SUNDAY/...
We'll continue with the much above normal temperatures into the
long term which covers Thu/Fri and next weekend. Thursday looks to
be the mildest day (presently) with highs reaching the upper 60s/low
70s in most spots and low 60s far NW.  Records for Thu looks safe
with upper 70s/low 80s most spots and PHL/GED in the mid-80s for
records. Readings will moderate back to the low/mid 60s by Sat and
perhaps back to the 50s (for highs) next Sunday.

There are not too many significant weather systems in the long term.
A quick moving low moves across of the area Fri night with high
chance low likely pops offered by NBM. Another low/front may
approach later Sat. and into next Sunday so we'll continue with
chance pops for those periods attm.

.AVIATION /20Z SUNDAY THROUGH FRIDAY/...
The following discussion is for KPHL, KPNE, KTTN, KABE, KRDG, KILG,
KMIV, KACY and surrounding areas.

Rest of Today...Primarily VFR, although a quick drop to MVFR is
possible near KRDG/KABE. Isolated to scattered rain/snow showers
this afternoon. Brief visibility restrictions are possible. W winds
around 15-25 kt with gusts up to 30-40 kt. High confidence, lower
confidence with regards to ceilings dropping.

Tonight...A rain/snow shower is possible early, but should quickly
diminish after 00Z-01Z. Otherwise, VFR expected with skies clearing
late. W-NW winds around 15-20 kt with gusts up to 30-35 kt. Moderate
confidence.

Monday...VFR expected. Lingering morning clouds will give way to
SKC. W-NW winds around 20-30 kt with gusts up to 35-45 kt possible.
Moderate confidence.

Outlook...

Mon night thru Tuesday... VFR expected. Moderately gusty winds, G20
to 25 kts, possible.

Tue night thru Friday... VFR expected.

.MARINE...
The Gale Warning remains in effect for all waters including the
Delaware Bay through 6 PM on Monday. Strong W-NW flow ranging
between 25-35 kt sustained with gusts up to 40-45 kt is likely
through Monday morning. By Monday afternoon, winds will gradually
start to diminish with gusts up to 35 kt. Seas of 5-8 feet expected
through Monday.

from Monday. Winds and seas subside overnight. Fair.

.TIDES/COASTAL FLOODING...
As of mid afternoon, we are still dealing with coastal flooding for
portions of the tidal Delaware including Philadelphia and
Burlington. While the latest indications are the gauge at
Philadelphia probably won't make it to moderate flooding, higher
levels cresting near moderate thresholds are occuring closer to
Burlington. Water levels will then be falling off by late this
afternoon with the Coastal Flood Warning expiring at 7 PM this
evening for these zones. Elsewhere, we are well past high tide along
the oceanfront but there continues to be water trapped in portions
of the back bays of Barnegat Bay in Ocean County NJ as well as
Little Assawoman Bay in Sussex County Delaware. For this reason, a
Coastal Flood Advisory remains in effect for these zones through the
next high tide cycle this evening despite the fact we are not
forecasting further flooding along the oceanfront. After this
evening, we don't expect additional coastal flooding headlines due
to the strengthening offshore winds.
