.SYNOPSIS...
Weak surface high pressure influences the region through Friday
night. Low pressure approaches the region Friday night and
Saturday and impacts the region later Saturday into Sunday. High
pressure begins to build in later Sunday and holds influence
over the region Sunday night through Wednesday night.

&&

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TONIGHT/...
Today and tonight will be our main respite from the rainy
conditions that have dominated most of this week. A surface
ridge associated with an eastern Canada High will be in place
as a mid and upper level short wave ridge crosses the region.
While temperatures will still be above normal, onshore flow
developing by mid day will temper any heating due to the ridging
aloft and any breaks in the clouds.

The main concern through this period will be the potential for
any marine layer stratus to advect into the region overnight
tonight. It looks like winds will stay up enough that it should
be primarily a stratus event and not too much fog.

&&

.SHORT TERM /SATURDAY THROUGH SUNDAY/...
Strengthening surface low pressure approaches the region Friday
night as weak high pressure fleets away. This surface low pressure
will continue to approach Saturday morning before beginning to
impact the region with precipitation primarily in the afternoon. The
low pressure should swing through the region Saturday night with the
cold front of system looking to cross through sometime after
midnight. The low will look to be centered to our north/northeast
Sunday morning and will continue to push northeastwards with time.
All the while, the low will continue to strengthen and occlude.

Latest guidance has been a bit slower with precipitation reaching
the region Saturday. With precipitation forecast to be a bit
slower and weak high pressure in control Friday night, no PoP
is included in the forecast for the Friday night period. Will
spread some slight chance and chance PoPs from the southwest
over the region for the Saturday morning period. Most guidance
suggest the bulk of precipitation brought to the region will not
start until the afternoon time frame. Will include likely and
categorical PoPs for the afternoon, evening, and night time
frame. PoPs will taper off for Sunday morning; the northeastern
most areas may see some rain linger during the Sunday morning
time frame.

Couple of forecast elements to address today. First, overall impact
from this low pressure system and precipitation itself should not be
all that impactful. Guidance continues to have non-substantial QPF
amounts for the time frame, somewhere in the 0.5-1.5" range.
Forecast wise, this range is also included for today's forecast.
However, due to multiple previous rain events which have happened
this week additional precipitation brought to the region may
exacerbate the potential for flooding. Grounds will already be
saturated before the weekend with many rivers already elevated.
More rain could push certain rivers in our region into flood
stage or cause rivers coming down from flood stage to rise once
again. Second, have been noting some instability in the model
soundings with this system the last couple of days. Latest
guidance continues to indicate some widespread instability being
present across the region late Saturday and Saturday evening
into Saturday night. While the potential for severe weather is
low, some thunderstorms embedded are not out of the question. At
the very least, a couple rumbles of thunder should be
anticipated. Third, some gusty winds across the region may be
observed later Saturday afternoon and evening/night as the cold
front approaches and later looks to cross through. However, the
greater concern regarding wind will come Sunday and beyond (see
LONG TERM). Wind gusts of 35-40 mph are possible Sunday with
brisk westerly sustained flow of 20-30 mph.

.LONG TERM /SUNDAY NIGHT THROUGH THURSDAY/...
Strong occluding surface low pressure to the northeast of the region
Sunday night will continue to push northeastwards with time. As this
occurs, surface high pressure to our west/southwest will build over
the region. The ensembles and deterministic models, as well as the
general synoptic pattern, support this surface high pressure holding
a firm grasp over the region through the duration of the long term.

With high pressure in control for the long term, no precipitation is
anticipated and no PoP is included in today's forecast. Guidance
suggests temperatures should run around average Sunday night into
Tuesday. Temperatures Tuesday night onwards may run a bit above
average.

There is one element of the long term forecast which is important to
point out. As low pressure to the northeast Sunday night continues
to strengthen and push northeastwards with time, surface high
pressure will be building in from the west. This will result in a
tight gradient over the region Sunday night through Monday before
the gradient begins to relax some Monday night and Tuesday. Strong
winds are nearly certain Sunday night and Monday, diminishing but
lingering some Monday night and Tuesday. How exactly strong they
become is still a little too early to state with exact
confidence, but wind gusts of at least 30-35 mph for Sunday
night and 40-45 mph for Monday are becoming more likely.

&&

.AVIATION /08Z FRIDAY THROUGH TUESDAY/...
The following discussion is for KPHL, KPNE, KTTN, KABE, KRDG,
KILG, KMIV, KACY and surrounding areas.

Through today...VFR. There are very isolated transient low clouds
that are resulting in brief MVFR conditions, but these are expected
to dissipate over the next few hours. Winds will be varying from NNE
to SE by the afternoon. Wind speeds will be around 5-10 kt through
the day. High confidence in prevailing VFR.

Tonight...Starting VFR. There is a high risk (90%) for low
stratus (with MVFR or even IFR ceilings) to advect in off the
ocean. If this happens, KACY and KMIV are the most likely to be
affected and would see the impacts the earliest (as early as
03Z). The chance is slightly lower (60%) that the low stratus
will advect as far inland as KPHL, KILG, KPNE, and KTTN (if this
were to happen it would occur after 06Z). It is unlikely that
the low stratus would reach as far inland as KABE and KRDG. SE
and E winds less than 10 kt throughout the night. Moderate
confidence on the overall pattern, but low confidence on details
with regards to the marine stratus.

Outlook...

Saturday...Sub-VFR conditions with -RA/RA. ESE winds 10-20 kts
with gusts up to 25-30 kts. Moderate confidence.

Saturday night...Sub-VFR with RA. SE winds 15-20 kts with gusts up
to 30 kts veering W with time. Moderate confidence.

Sunday...Mainly VFR, though some sub-VFR cigs may linger. W winds 20-
25 kts with gusts of 30-40 kts. Moderate confidence.

Sunday night...VFR. W winds 20-25 kts with gusts of 30-35 kts. High
confidence.

Monday...VFR. WNW winds 25-30 kts with gusts of 35-40 kts. High
confidence.

Monday night...VFR. WNW winds 15-20 kts with gusts up to 25-30 kts.
High confidence.

Tuesday...VFR. WNW winds around 15 kts with gusts up to 25 kts. High
confidence.

.MARINE...

Small craft advisory conditions, primarily for elevated seas
continues on the Atlantic coastal waters. Seas should begin to
diminish tonight, and we could see up to a 12 hour lull in SCA
conditions on the coastal waters from Sandy Hook to Little Egg
Inlet. Otherwise, should see seas hover around 5 feet.

SCA conditions aren't expected on the Delaware Bay through tonight.

On all waters, low stratus, or even some fog could develop tonight,
especially close to the coast. At this point, it appears as if the
winds will stay elevated enough to limit visibility restrictions,
but will be watching trends closely.

Outlook...

Saturday through Saturday night...SCA flag anticipated for seas
and winds.

Sunday through Monday...Gales anticipated.

Monday night through Tuesday...SCA flag anticipated.

.HYDROLOGY...
Minor river flooding is still expected along the Rancocas Creek at
Pemberton.

Another round of widespread rain could result in additional flood
concerns Saturday and Sunday. We will continue to monitor guidance
trends.

We attach words like MINOR and MODERATE to river flooding. What do
these words mean?

MINOR FLOODING: Minimal to no property damage, but some public
threat can be expected (e.g. inundation of roads).

MODERATE FLOODING: Some inundation of structures and roads near
streams/rivers are expected. Evacuations of people and/or the
transfer of property to higher elevations can be anticipated.

.TIDES/COASTAL FLOODING...
Coastal flooding is expected this morning along the Atlantic Coast,
Delaware Bay and tidal Delaware River. The previous forecast was
tracking too low, so expanded the coastal flood advisory early this
morning.

More rounds of tidal flooding are very likely (90%) with the high
tide cycles on Saturday. Forecast continues with widespread minor
tidal flooding. However, for some locations the current forecast is
just below moderate flood levels especially with the Saturday
morning high tide. Rain coming near the time of high tide could
exacerbate the tidal flooding and increase the risk for moderate
tidal flooding. Minor flooding is again expected with the late
Saturday high tide, but it will be the lower of the two astronomical
high tides, so impacts should be less than the early Saturday high
tide. The forecast Sunday has become trickier with a slower-moving
system currently expected. Depending on the timing of the departure,
winds may not shift offshore until later in the day, thus elevating
coastal flooding concerns once again for the Sunday morning high
tide.

There is an increasing risk (70%) for widespread minor tidal
flooding on the northeastern Chesapeake Bay. The primary high tide
of concern is the Sunday daytime high tide, though spotty minor
flooding is possible with the Saturday night high tide as well.

Once this morning's high tide passes, we will reevaluate the tide
forecast and any advisories or other headlines that may be needed
for Saturday.
