...A TORNADO WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 315 PM CST FOR EAST
CENTRAL POLK COUNTY...
    
At 302 PM CST, a thunderstorm with a history of producing a spotter 
confirmed tornado was located over Chester, moving northeast at 50 
mph.

HAZARD...Damaging tornado.

SOURCE...Weather spotters confirmed tornado near Lower Van Rd and FM 
         2025 in San Jacinto County.

IMPACT...Flying debris will be dangerous to those caught without 
         shelter. Mobile homes will be damaged or destroyed. Damage 
         to roofs, windows, and vehicles will occur.  Tree damage is 
         likely.

This tornadic thunderstorm will remain over mainly rural areas of
east central Polk County.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

To repeat, a tornado is on the ground. TAKE COVER NOW! Move to a
basement or an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy
building. Avoid windows. If you are outdoors, in a mobile home, or in
a vehicle, move to the closest substantial shelter and protect
yourself from flying debris.

SPC has issued a Tornado Watch for most of SE Texas until 9 PM.
The watch excludes Matagorda, Jackson, Burleson, Brazos, Madison,
Houston, and Trinity counties.

Showers and thunderstorms continuing to work their way across SE
Texas with main line of storms approaching the Brazos Valley from
the west. GOES Satellite imagery shows some breaks in the clouds
across the region ahead of this main line, which could increase
destabilization. So far, most of the storms have remained sub-
severe with a few stronger thunderstorms occurring. As we get into
the afternoon hours, CAPE values will approach 3000 J/kg with
DCAPE near 1000 J/kg, and helicity approaching 300 m^2/s^2. All of
this will create an environment conducive to the development of
severe thunderstorms. These storms will be capable of producing
damaging winds, large hail, and isolated tornadoes. A couple of
stronger tornadoes cannot be ruled out. The timing of peak severe
weather will be in the 2-6pm. Make sure to have multiple ways to
receive alerts and stay weather aware!

The cold front will move offshore this evening, leaving behind
windy conditions inland and Gale conditions over the waters. Lows
for tonight will be in the 30s to low 40s. Windy conditions will
continue through the day tomorrow, with the Wind Advisory set to
expire tomorrow evening. Tuesday will feature cooler temperatures
with highs in the low to mid 50s area wide. Clear skies will
enhance radiational cooling Tuesday night, leading to lows
dropping into the upper 20s across far northern counties. Further
south, lows will be in the 30s, with coastal areas dropping into
the 40s.

(Wednesday through next Sunday)

Onshore flow will return Wednesday, bringing the return of
moisture along with it. Southerly to southwesterly winds will
allow temperatures to rebound with highs in the 60s area wide.
Lows for Wednesday night will be in the 40s to mid 50s. Isentropic
lifting and PW values around 0.75-1.0" will provide a slight
chance of rain Thursday. Outside of that, expect weather to remain
quiet through Thursday evening.

Global models continuing to point to another upper level trough
cutting through the Great Plains, ejecting another strong cold
front SE Texas Friday. Continued with the previous forecaster's
thoughts on frontal timing affecting Brazos Valley area Friday
morning and moving offshore by Friday afternoon. Models also
indicating the potential for strong winds to develop behind the
front, so will need to keep an eye on the potential for Advisory
conditions. Uncertainties still present among models with regards
to timing and how cold temperatures will get behind the front.

A lot of uncertainty remains in the late period; however, ensemble
models are pointing to the potential for even colder temperatures
with another front late weekend into early next week. If this
trend continues, this weekend's front could bring some of our
coldest temperatures so far this winter

Widespread SHRA across much of the area, with a few TSRA, mainly
north of most TAF sites attm. We are expecting additional TSRA to
develop later this aft/early eve near the frontal boundary as it
progresses SE across the area. Seeing wind gusts around 30 kts
areawide due to the tight pressure gradient across the area. Also
seeing widespread MVFR ceilings. Maintained the non convective
LLWS group tonight with the strong westerly winds expected just above
the sfc.

Issued at 112 PM CST Mon Jan 8 2024

Onshore winds around 15 to 25 knots are expected across the bays and
nearshore waters today ahead of a cold front, with winds in the
offshore waters approaching Gale-Force. This strong onshore flow
will bring seas of 8 to 13 ft across the gulf waters, along with a
higher risk of rip current and elevated tides across all Gulf-facing
beaches during this period. Numerous thunderstorms will develop
along and ahead of the cold front today. Some storms may become
strong to severe at times, capable of producing damaging winds and
isolated waterspouts. The cold front should push offshore this
evening, with winds across all waters approaching Gale-Force
overnight. This strong offshore flow will result in low water levels
throughout the bays early Tuesday morning. Winds and seas subside
Tuesday evening, with onshore flow quickly returning by Wednesday
morning. Caution flags may be needed at times during the second half
of the work week as onshore winds return and strengthen ahead of yet
another cold front. This second cold front arrives early on Friday,
with strong offshore winds, potentially nearing Gale-Force,
developing in it's wake.
