Forecast appears to be on track. Received several reports of mixed
precip this morning on back edge of precip area. Cancelled the Winter
Wx Advisory a couple of hours early after precip exited the advisory
area. At that time, added verbiage to ongoing WSW referencing a
black ice threat. Will evaluate how much ground wetness remains this
afternoon for possible SPS issuance on residual black ice. Will also
add verbiage on possibility of frozen pipes. /SEC

At a glance:

-Frozen precip will come to an end after 10 AM.

-The Winter Storm Products will end by the early afternoon. Gusty
winds behind the cold front should help to dry things out pretty
quick.

-Cold. Like really cold. Wind chills could fall into the single
digits across most of the CWA prompting a Wind Chill Advisory.

Temperatures have been a little slow to drop during the overnight
shift and the precip has been out ahead of what models had initially
suggested. Some light precip is falling along the I-85 corridor as
of the time this is being written. Temperatures are still in the
upper 30s and lower 40s. Looking back into Alabama though, and temps
have already fallen below freezing as the trough surges south to our
west. As a result, we'll likely begin to see freezing rain in the
obs around the morning commute time. As the sun comes out and precip
starts to move into central Georgia it will encounter temperatures
above freezing and should transition into only rain after 11AM
before pushing south and out of the CWA after 1 PM.

Cold will filter in behind the rain and the metro area will likely
see high temperatures that struggle to get above freezing. The high
temperature gradient will remain pretty tight across our CWA ranging
from mid 50s in the SE portion of the CWA to low 20s in the NW.
Winds will gust out of the NW at up to 25mph this afternoon making
temps feel much colder. The Wind Chill Advisory goes into effect
after 5 PM. Wind chill values around and below 5 degrees are likely
along and north of i-85. If we had iguanas, they'd be falling out of
trees.

Georgia overnight Thursday into early Friday. Will be monitoring
this system for the potential for another round of a wintry mix
across far north Georgia.

- Another blast of dangerously cold temperatures and wind chills
appears likely this coming weekend.

Zonal flow aloft with high pressure at the surface will bring calm
conditions to the forecast area at the start of the long term
period. Temperatures in the cold, dry airmass will rebound closer to
normal Thursday morning in the teens across much of north and west
central Georgia and low to mid 20s elsewhere. Thursday, high
temperatures moderate into the 50s for areas along and south of I-20
and into the 40s for areas northward as large scale subsidence from
the high pressure sets up under mostly sunny skies. The main
headline weatherwise on Thursday will be concerns over dangerous
fire weather conditions. The already dry surface conditions
characterized by dewpoints in the teens across much of northeast
Georgia could be reinforced by the stout dry layer aloft as seen in
model soundings. Minimum relative humidities areawide will need to
be monitored Thursday should they meet critical thresholds.

Thursday afternoon, a 500mb short wave will roll across the Plains
and bring a cold front to the forecast area. As moisture surges into
the forecast area, rain showers will be possible with the best
chances across north Georgia. Rainfall amounts will be light (PWATs
ranging from 0.4 to 0.9") with up to 0.15 inches falling primarily
along and north of I-85. A rain/now mix will be possible across far
north Georgia after sunset Thursday into Friday morning. At this
time, no accumulations are anticipated, though a dusting of snow is
possible on the highest peaks.

Behind this system will be yet another bitterly cold airmass that
will produce dangerous wind chills over the weekend. Temperatures
will drop rapidly Friday night into early Saturday morning, with
lows bottoming out in the single digits across far north Georgia, in
the teens across much of north and central Georgia, and the 20s
across south central Georgia. Wind chills will be as low as -5 to 10
degrees across much of the forecast area through early Saturday
morning. Locations in the higher elevations across north Georgia
could reach as low as -10 while our most southeastern counties will
be above the 10 degree mark. Wind Chill Advisories will likely be
hoisted as we get closer to the event. Saturday's highs will be
running between 15 and 25+ degrees colder than average with highs in
the teens and 20s across far north Georgia, the upper 20s for areas
generally along the I-85 corridor, and the upper 30s to low 40s for
areas further south. Wind chills overnight Saturday into Sunday
morning will also be flirting with Wind Chill Advisory criteria.
Luckily, Sunday's high temperatures will recover back into the 40s
and will continue a warming trend through Monday with temperatures
back in he 40s and 50s. Strong surface high pressure coupled with
ridging aloft will make for dry conditions. However, fire danger
will be a concern over the weekend with critical relative humidity
thresholds likely to be met for much of the forecast area over
several days.

12Z at the very tail end of the precipitation band, but any FZRA
will be brief. IFR conditions will continue as the rain moves
through, but should rapidly improve back toward VFR as rain clears
the area. NW winds will be anywhere from 10-12kts; gusting as high
as 25kts.

This Hazardous Weather Outlook is for portions of North and Central Georgia.

.DAY ONE...Today and Tonight...

A mix of snow, sleet, freezing rain, and rain will continue
across portions of north and west Georgia early this morning. A
Winter Storm Warning is in effect until 7 AM Tuesday. Ice
accumulations of up to a tenth of an inch are possible.

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect across portions of north
Georgia, where a light glaze of ice could occur with freezing
rain. The Advisory will end between 10 AM and noon Tuesday from
north to south.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Wednesday through Monday...

Dangerously cold conditions will surge across the region Tuesday
evening through Wednesday morning, leading to wind chills of -5 to
10 degrees. A Wind Chill Advisory has been issued for much of
north and central Georgia for Tuesday evening and night.
Temperatures will moderate somewhat on Thursday and Friday;
however, dangerously cold conditions will return next weekend.
