.SYNOPSIS...
High pressure will prevail today. A storm system will impact
the region late tonight into Thursday. High pressure should
build over the region on Friday and remain into early next
week.

&&

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TONIGHT/...
The forecast area will remain between deepening sfc low
pressure over the Deep South and high pressure centered over the
western Atlantic. This pattern will provide the region with
steady SE winds through the day. Latest SPC mesoscale analysis
indicated an area of moisture convergence off the coast of
SC, drifting northward. Within this area of moisture
convergence, KCLX has detected a few small returns, light
showers or sprinkles north of the Edisto River. Through the rest
of this afternoon, isolated showers may develop over the
nearshore SC waters and CHS Tri-county. A weak sea breeze will
expected to surge inland this afternoon, followed by increasing
dewpoints. Temperatures should peak in the upper 70s along the
coast to the mid 80s across inland GA.

Tonight: The forecast will begin to change significantly as the
aforementioned southern stream mid/upper level low shifts
across the lower Mississippi Vally and lifts into the Tennessee
Valley late tonight. The surface low is progged to lift
northeastward and into west Tennessee late tonight. As the
evening starts, strong to severe convection is expected to be
ongoing along the Florida panhandle up through the southern
region of the Alabama/Georgia border. This convection will track
eastward and the arrival of showers and possibly thunderstorms
in the latter portion of the overnight will largely be driven by
the timing and evolution of this convection. The forecast
features increasing rain chances from midnight through sunrise
Thursday, highest values further inland. There isn't a great
deal of confidence in the placement and timing of these rain
chances due to the dependency on the arrival of upstream
convection. But the overall trend should hold that conditions
will become increasingly unsettled as sunrise Thursday
approaches. Winds will remain elevated through the night thanks
to the tightening pressure gradient and low- level jetting
spreading in ahead of the approaching system. South- southeast
flow gusts as high as 20-25 mph at times can be expected,
especially closer to the coast during the late night hours.
Temperatures will be mild, with lows only falling into the mid
to upper 60s.

.SHORT TERM /THURSDAY THROUGH SATURDAY/...
Thursday: A mid-level trough will be positioned over the
Mississippi River Valley in the morning hours. This will result
in SW flow aloft over the local forecast area. As the day
progresses the southern extent of the trough will swing to the
NE over the Carolinas and into the Mid Atlantic states. At the
surface a low pressure system associated with this upper level
feature will be located in the vicinity of northern Mississippi.
In the early morning hours a warm front will lift northward
through the local forecast area, with a cold front pushing
through in the early overnight period. Numerous to widespread
showers will likely push through the region on Thursday, with a
chance of thunderstorms as well.

Models show most of the precipitation working its way through
the CWA in the morning into the early afternoon. However, there
may be several limiting factors in play in regards to the
overall severe thunderstorm risk across the region. Despite the
region being well within the warm sector, thick cloud cover
streaming in from the west will likely limit destabilization.
Convection will likely be ongoing in the early morning hours
across the FL Panhandle, which has the potential to essentially
cut off the moisture transport into the local region. The best
shot for severe thunderstorms will likely be across the southern
portions of the CWA, which is illustrated in SPC's D2 Slight
Risk across southeastern GA and the southernmost portion of
southeastern SC. A Marginal Risk is in place elsewhere. These
southern areas will have the best chance to tap into the higher
PWAT values closer to the FL Panhandle (pushing 2 inches) as
well as greater instability (ML CAPE values 3-400 J/kg). It is
worth noting that model soundings are showing plentiful shear
across the entire forecast area (upwards of 50 knots) so the
even with minimal instability there is a threat for strong to
possibly severe wind gusts. 24 hour rainfall probabilities
support a storm total rainfall of around 1-1.5 inches across the
forecast area.

Additionally, breezy conditions are expected even outside of
convection, with southerly winds gusting to around 25-30 mph. A
Lake Wind Advisory will likely be required for Lake Moultrie.
Temperatures are expected to reach into the mid to upper 70s.

Friday and Saturday: After the cold front pushes through
Thursday night, high pressure will build into the region at the
surface while broad troughing prevails aloft. Quiet weather is
expected both days, with plentiful sunshine and high
temperatures in the 70s.

.LONG TERM /SATURDAY NIGHT THROUGH TUESDAY/...
Quiet weather is expected through the period with zonal flow
aloft transitioning into broad ridging early next week. At the
surface high pressure will dominate, centered over the northern
Gulf of Mexico and building into the region from the south.
Plentiful sunshine will be present through the weekend, with
gradually warming temperatures. High temperatures by early next
week could push 90 in several locations across southeastern GA,
with mid to upper 80s elsewhere away from the beaches.

.AVIATION /18Z WEDNESDAY THROUGH MONDAY/...
18Z TAFs: The terminals will remain between deepening sfc low
pressure over the Deep South and high pressure centered over the
western Atlantic. Gusty SSE winds should develop this afternoon,
developing behind a weak sea breeze. Wind gusts may end late
this afternoon into this evening. However, a warm front is
timed to lift across the region late tonight. As the front
passes, the terminals should develop gusty south winds, gusts
between 20-25 kts. A band of showers and at least scattered
thunderstorms is timed to reach the terminals Thursday morning.
By 16Z, the KSAV TAF will feature a mention of TSRA, remaining
SHRA at KCHS/KJZI. All terminals could see gusts in excess of
30s kts by 16Z Thursday.

Extended Aviation Outlook: VFR. Gusty west winds may remain
across the terminal Thursday night into Friday.

.MARINE...
Today through tonight: Winds today will be southeast to south-
southeast with wind speeds mostly in the 10-15 knot range. Gusts
up to around 20 knots will be possible along the land/sea
interface this afternoon. Seas will gradually increase into the
2-4 ft range. Overnight, both winds and seas will ramp as the
pressure gradient tightens ahead of an approaching low pressure
system. By sunrise Thursday we expected to see widespread 15-20
knots of flow, with gusts approaching 25 knots in the Georgia
coastal waters. Seas will increase in response to the winds,
becoming 3-5 ft, with 6 ft seas spreading across the Georgia
coastal waters and to near the 20 nm line. Small Craft
Advisories go into effect for all waters outside of Charleston
Harbor late tonight, though the worst conditions will occur
beyond the end of the late night period.

Thursday: Dangerous marine conditions are forecast, with S
winds gusting 25 to 30 knots and seas building to 6 to 8 ft
across the nearshore waters and 8 to 10 ft across the 20-60 nm
offshore GA waters. Small Craft Advisories are in effect for all
marine zones, including the Charleston Harbor. There could be a
few hours of Gale Force gusts during the daytime hours, a Gale
Watch/Warning may eventually be needed. A cold front will sweep
through the region, with numerous to widespread showers and
thunderstorms. These showers/storms could produce gusty winds or
even a waterspout.

Friday through Monday: Seas will rapidly improve over the
marine waters on Friday, decreasing to 3 to 4 ft by Friday
evening, but W winds will likely remain elevated through the
daytime hours, gusting to around 25 knots. Small Craft
Advisories will likely remain in effect through Friday
afternoon. Thereafter marine conditions will continue to improve
as high pressure builds into the local region, with winds
generally 10 to 15 knots and seas 2-3 ft.

High Surf: There will be an increasing potential for high surf
to develop by later Wednesday night and Thursday. Seas beyond 20
nm are expected to build to greater than 8 feet. These higher
seas and potential for long period swell to also be mixed in
could result in high surf conditions.

Rip Currents: Stronger onshore flow and increasing long period
swell will support a Moderate Risk for rip currents at all
beaches today.

On Thursday, breaking wave heights may exceed 5 ft with very
gusty winds and a High Risk for rip currents has been posted for
all beaches. An increased risk of rip currents will likely last
through the end of the week.

.TIDES/COASTAL FLOODING...
For the upcoming evening high tide (~10:30 pm): The
astronomical high tide for Charleston is 6.56 ft MLLW. The
observed tidal departure is currently running about 0.7 ft,
which would again be sufficient to produce minor coastal
flooding if it maintains into the evening. Onshore southeasterly
flow will be a bit stronger than the past few days and this
should keep the tidal departure around this level. It appears we
are again in line for a peak tide value somewhere in the
7.1-7.3 ft MLLW range. A Coastal Flood Advisory will almost
certainly be needed, but we will hold off and allow the day
shift to monitor the tidal departure through the day.

Further south, including coastal Georgia and the southern South
Carolina coast (coastal portions of Jasper and Beaufort
Counties), while tides could approach minor coastal flooding
this evening, it appears that peak tide values will remain just
below and a Coastal Flood Advisory is not anticipated.
