.SYNOPSIS...
High pressure will prevail today, before a strong storm system
impacts the area tonight through Tuesday night. High pressure
will briefly rebuild during the middle of the week, before the
next system arrives Friday. High pressure should return later
in the weekend.

&&

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TONIGHT/...
With dense cirrus in place across the forecast area,
temperatures have been struggling to rise this morning and
afternoon. Max temperatures were lowered a degree for today.
Otherwise, the forecast still looks to be on track.

Today: Aloft, broad ridging will shift across the eastern CONUS
ahead of a deepening low moving into the Central Plains. At the
surface, high pressure will start the day centered across the
central Appalachians moving to the Mid Atlantic through sunset.
Low- level flow will be northeasterly for most of the day,
turning more easterly late. We will see increasing coverage of
layered clouds throughout the day, with some periods of sun and
mostly cloud conditions. The forecast is dry, though we will see
increasing moisture arrive from the south late in the day.
through early afternoon precipitable water values will be less
than half an inch, but will increase to around an inch along the
Altamaha by late afternoon. Temperatures will remain on the
cool side, thanks to the presence of cloud cover and the
persistent northeasterly flow. Forecast highs range from the mid
50s inland to the upper 50s to around 60 along the coast.

Tonight: Aloft, the upper ridge axis will move away from the
area as the still deepening upper low tracks to the east. The
deepening of moisture profiles will continue through the night,
with precipitable water values reaching the 1.4-1.6" range.
Model guidance is in agreement that beginning in the mid to late
evening hours, an area of showers will lift northward into the
forecast area and spread across the entire forecast area through
sunrise. For most areas rainfall amounts during the overnight
should be less than a tenth of an inch, though inland locations
could see up to a quarter of an inch. It will be another night
where low temperatures will occur early prior to a warm front
developing and lifting northward beginning around midnight. So
lows during the late evening are forecast to reach the mid to
upper 40s inland and the low 50s along the coast. Contrast this
with temperatures likely surging into the low 60s as we get near
sunrise Tuesday. After midnight and behind the warm front,
winds will turn southeasterly and begin to strengthen as the
leading edge of impressive low-level jetting spreads in. Just
before sunrise, winds are forecast to surge to be 15-20 mph with
frequent gusts to around 25 mph. There could even be some gusts
up to around 30 mph along the coast.

&&

.SHORT TERM /TUESDAY THROUGH THURSDAY/...
A closed upper low over the mid-Mississippi Valley Tuesday
morning will lift northeast into the Great Lakes region through
Tuesday night while deepening (per NAEFS, several standard
deviations below climatology). An associated surface low will
take a similar track, with a strong cold front to move through
the local area in the evening. Deep moisture will be in place,
characterized by PWats near climatological maximums, and the
dynamics/forcing mechanisms are in plenty. Some shower activity
will be around in the morning, but the main precipitation will
arrive in the afternoon and evening, likely in the form of a
squall line. Though it's worth noting a few models indicate some
discrete supercellular activity ahead of the main band.
Rainfall totals will average in the 1-1.5 inch range. Pockets of
heavier rainfall could result in ponding on roadways, but
widespread flooding is not anticipated given the progressive
nature of the system.

Of concern is the threat for severe weather. Wind fields are
just plain impressive. Deep layer shear increases to 60-70 kt
and low level SRH peaks near 500 m2/s2. Forecast STP values are
generally 2-3 units, possibly up to 4 in spots. Instability
continues to look marginal, averaging less than 500 J/kg across
most areas. However, this parameter will best be assessed in the
near term/day-of. SPC has increased severe weather
probabilities, and now the entire area is highlighted within an
Enhanced Risk (level 3/5). The primary hazards are damaging wind
gusts and tornadoes, with potential for even a few strong
tornadoes. While all areas could see severe weather, there is
some indication that the best parameters could center over the
Charleston quad-county. Timing for the line is in the afternoon
and evening, occurring earliest inland before the threat shifts
to the coast.

Outside of convection, southerly winds will be breezy. We've
opted for an extremely rare High Wind Watch along the coast from
Chatham county northward to Charleston county, with a Wind
Advisory elsewhere. Sustained winds are forecast to be in the
30-40 mph range with gusts 45-50 mph. In the watch area,
guidance shows probabilities generally in the 60-90% range of
gusts over 55 mph (60-70% greater than 60 mph across Charleston
county). These winds will likely cause downed trees and
powerlines, and hazardous travel especially on bridges and
overpasses where winds could be even higher. The strongest winds
should taper off in the evening.

The main band of precipitation and cold front will shift
offshore in the evening, with dry weather expected for Wednesday
and Thursday. Gusty west winds will persist on Wednesday with
tight pressure gradient still in place. Conditions will likely
support a Lake Wind Advisory. Cool temperatures on Wednesday
will moderate closer to normal for Thursday.

.LONG TERM /THURSDAY NIGHT THROUGH MONDAY/...
Active pattern will continue with the next system arriving on
Friday. Rain chances will increase through the day, with the
bulk of activity expected to be offshore by Saturday morning.
Winds will again become gusty, though not expected to be at the
caliber of the Tuesday system. High pressure should build into
the region through the weekend. Dry and quiet weather is
expected, though gusty winds will linger into Saturday.
Temperatures will cool through the period.

.AVIATION /18Z MONDAY THROUGH SATURDAY/...
Overall, the current TAF reflects solid VFR conditions to start
with deteriorating conditions occurring at KCHS/KSAV/KJZI late
tonight.

Ahead of incoming strong system, an area of showers will move
in from the south early tonight and lift northward across the
terminals, impacting KSAV first. The showers should arrive near
KSAV around 04z, then reach KCHS and KJZI a few hours later.
These initial showers are expected to be light with little
impacts. Thereafter, showers will become more isolated/scattered
ahead of the main squall line in which flight restrictions due
to low vsbys will be limited to locations within showers. In
terms of ceilings, models show a lowering of the cloud deck
overnight with MVFR cigs developing around sunrise. However,
there could be prevailing IFR conditions with brief LIFR
conditions within the last 6 hours of the TAF period. Those
details will have to be refined later. In terms of winds,
northeast winds will swing around to the southeast and
eventually becoming south tomorrow afternoon. Speeds will
generally increase though the night with a drastic acceleration
noted around sunrise Tuesday. Sustained winds 20-25 kt with
gusts 30-35 kt will be common Tuesday morning. Toward the end of
the TAF period, the terminals could start to see occasional
gusts nearing 40 kt.

Extended Aviation Outlook: A powerful storm system will bring
flight restrictions and strong winds to the area into Tuesday
night, with gusty winds persisting through Wednesday. Another
round of flight restrictions and gusty winds are possible on
Friday with the next system.

.MARINE...
Today: Winds will be northeasterly for most of the day,
becoming more east-northeasterly late. Wind speeds will mostly
be 15-20 knots, and there could be an occasional gust up near 25
knots. Seas are forecast to average 3-4 feet. Conditions,
mainly with winds, could be near Small Craft Advisory thresholds
at times but are mostly expected to remain just below.

Tonight: Conditions will begin to deteriorate across the local
waters overnight as a warm front lifts to the north and
impressive low-level jetting begins to shift into the region.
Winds will begin to surge in the evening and steadily continue
through sunrise Tuesday. Frequent gusts into the 30-35 knot
range are expected overnight impacting all waters and Charleston
Harbor. Even though winds will not likely reach explicit Gale
Warning criteria until very late tonight or even into Tuesday
morning, we have decided for the sake of simplicity to begin
Gale Warnings in the evening hours. This will be inclusive of
what will likely be Small Craft Advisory conditions but will
help make messaging easier and focus on the most impactful
winds. Seas will respond to the surging winds, increasing into
the 5-8 ft range across the nearshore waters and the 8-11 ft
range across the outer Georgia waters.

Tuesday through Saturday: Dangerous marine conditions are
expected over the coastal waters Tuesday into Tuesday night as
an anomalously strong storm system impacts the region. Gale
force winds expected across all waters through the day and into
Tuesday night. Confidence is also increasing in gusts to storm
force across the Charleston county waters, Charleston Harbor,
and far outer portions of the outer Georgia waters late morning
into the evening, and we opted to hoist a Storm Watch for those
zones. In addition, seas will reach as high as 10-17 feet.

Conditions will improve on Wednesday, although gusty west winds
and elevated seas will still remain in Small Craft Advisory
levels. All headlines should be down by Thursday morning. It
will be short-lived however as the next system is expected to
arrive Friday into Friday night. Another round of advisories is
likely, with a chance for gale force gusts as well. Elevated
marine conditions will linger into Saturday as the pressure
gradient remains tight.

High Surf: Large breaking waves are expected at the beaches
late Monday night into Wednesday morning as a strong storm
system impacts the region. High Surf Advisories will likely be
needed. These conditions could result in localized beach
erosion.

.TIDES/COASTAL FLOODING...
The high tide around daybreak Tuesday continues to be the main
tide of concern for the next couple days. Monday night winds
will increase out of the ENE, then shift to the SE and then SSE
by daybreak Tuesday while rapidly strengthening. Tidal anomalies
should be increasing through Monday night, though the strongest
winds are not expected to occur until several hours after high
tide. The southerly flow will not be as favorable for large
anomalies compared to the ENE winds we experienced during the
Dec Nor'easter. Some surge guidance still indicates anomalies
of over 2.5 ft which seems fairly aggressive given the pattern,
so we continue to maintain forecast values a bit below that.
This could result in minor flooding along the GA coast and
moderate flooding along the SC coast. There still remains a risk
for major flooding for parts of Charleston and Colleton
Counties. Additional changes are likely as the event draws
closer. Fortunately it looks like the best chance for heavy
rainfall will not be until Tuesday afternoon.

move through the area on Tuesday. Some of the storms could become

High Surf: Large breaking waves will impact the beaches late Monday
night into Wednesday. A High Surf Advisory could be needed.

Coastal Flooding: Minor to moderate coastal flooding is possible
with the Tuesday morning high tide. A Coastal Flood Advisory could
