At 436 AM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking strong thunderstorms along
a line extending from Delaware Water Gap to Allentown to near
Birdsboro. Movement was east at 35 mph.
HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 40 mph.

.SYNOPSIS...
A cold front will push eastward through our region early this
morning. High pressure is expected to follow for the weekend.
Another cold front from the northwest is forecast to arrive on
Monday night. High pressure is anticipated in the wake of the
cold front for the mid week period.

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TONIGHT/...
A longwave trough axis will cross the region from the northwest
today while closing off. The closed low will the drift slowly
toward New England tonight. An associated surface low and cold
front will follow suit. The cold front is currently approaching
the I-81 corridor, and it will cross the forecast area fairly
quickly early this morning and be located offshore by late
morning or so.
There is plenty of forcing for convection with the height falls
and surface cold front moving through early this morning.
However, the limited window of return flow and unfavorable
timing of the forcing will translate to a very limited severe
weather threat with this system. However, still cannot rule out
and isolated severe storm. The line of showers and storm
associated with the cold front is expected to impact areas along
and north of I-78 through daybreak. Still anticipate to see
scattered showers and embedded storms elsewhere to the south
with brief heavy downpours possible. Southerly winds around 5-10
mph tonight will shift southwest to westerly and increase a bit
as the front passes.
The front should be making its way offshore by mid-morning. The
anomalously cold mid-level temperatures could result in some
lingering isolated showers or storms behind the front, at least
early in the day, mainly across the northerly half of the area.
Some guidance suggests more diurnally driven showers could
develop in the afternoon, but the drier air advecting in should
largely inhibit this activity. Have maintained a mainly dry
forecast beyond the lingering morning activity. Temperatures
will be a few degrees below normal in the low to mid 80s. The
air will become noticeably drier as the day progresses.
Dewpoints will start out near 70 degrees in the morning and will
end up in the low to mid 50s by the evening. A breezy west to
northwest wind will develop during the day. Sustained winds near
15 mph are forecast with gusts in the 20-25 mph range.
Temperatures will fall well into the 60s tonight as cool and
dry air advection continues. High pressure will settle in late
in the night, so the northwest breeze should eventually subside
late allowing for some radiational cooling. Expect low
temperatures mainly in the mid 50s to near 60 degrees.

.SHORT TERM /SATURDAY THROUGH SUNDAY NIGHT/...
A mid level low is forecast to be located in southern Quebec on
Saturday morning. It should drift northeastward reaching
Labrador late on Sunday night. Surface high pressure is
anticipated to build eastward from the Ohio River Valley to the
waters off the Middle Atlantic and Carolina Coasts. As a result,
we are anticipating dry weather conditions. Temperatures should
be below normal for Saturday and Saturday night, and near
normal for Sunday and Sunday night.
The cyclonic flow and a pool of cool air aloft (around 8C to
10C at 850 HPa) should allow for the development of a fair
amount of daytime cumulus on Saturday, especially over the
Poconos, the Lehigh Valley and northern New Jersey. The cumulus
will likely dissipate with the loss of heating on Saturday
evening. Sunday is expected to feature scattered cumulus and
some cirrus overhead.
The wind should favor the west and northwest around 10 MPH on
Saturday, backing toward the southwest at 5 to 10 MPH on Sunday.

.LONG TERM /MONDAY THROUGH THURSDAY/...
A mid level ridge is expected to remain centered over Missouri
and vicinity from Monday into Thursday, keeping us generally
under the influence of a northwest flow aloft. A surface cold
front is forecast to arrive on Monday night. High pressure
should then build from Ontario and the Great Lakes across the
northeastern states during the mid week period.
Temperatures should rise to around 90 degrees in much of our
area on Monday, ahead of the cold front. We are then expected to
return to daytime highs mostly in the 80s for Tuesday,
Wednesday and Thursday. The northwest flow will likely prevent
the return of any excessively humid conditions. Dew point
readings should stay mainly in the 60s on Tuesday, and in the
upper 50s and lower 60s on Wednesday and Thursday.
There is not a strong signal for any precipitation from Monday
through Thursday, even with the cold frontal passage on Monday
night. The northwest flow aloft will likely prevent the system
from tapping into any significant moisture source.

.AVIATION /07Z FRIDAY THROUGH TUESDAY/...
The following discussion is for KPHL, KPNE, KTTN, KABE, KRDG,
KILG, KMIV, KACY and surrounding areas.
Through 12Z...Areas of mainly MVFR stratus will continue to
linger across the area through at least 09Z. Scattered showers
and thunderstorms are expected across the region ahead of a cold
front, which is expected to cross the area between 09-12Z. The
greatest chances for thunder are at ABE/RDG/TTN. Brief heavy
rain and gusty winds are possible with any thunderstorms.
Conditions will quickly improve to VFR after frontal passage.
Southerly winds around 5-10 kts, becoming more southwest or west
after frontal passage through 12Z. Moderate confidence overall.
Today...VFR with scattered cumulus. Isolated showers or storms
possible early. West to northwest winds increasing to around
10-15 kts with gusts around 20-25 kts. High confidence.
Tonight...VFR and becoming SKC. West to northwest winds 5-10
kts. High confidence.

through 10 AM south of Little Egg Inlet and through 8 PM north
of there. Winds and seas will gradually subside through tonight.

Rip currents...
For today, SW to W winds will range from 10 to 20 mph with
gusts up to 25 mph. Breaking waves will range from 2 to 4 feet
with an increasing SE swell. There will be a MODERATE risk for
the development of dangerous rip currents at NJ beaches and a
LOW risk for DE beaches.
For Saturday, lessening westerly winds and seas will result in
a LOW risk of rip currents for all NJ and DE beaches.
