northwestern Lehigh, Carbon and Monroe Counties through 415 AM EDT...
At 310 AM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking strong thunderstorms along
a line extending from near Scranton to Lebanon. Movement was
northeast at 40 mph.
HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 40 mph.

IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around
unsecured objects.

.SYNOPSIS...
A cold front will cross our region early this morning. High
pressure is anticipated to follow for the weekend. Another cold
front from the northwest is forecast to arrive on Monday
afternoon and evening with a secondary cold front expected on
Tuesday night.

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TODAY/...
A cold front continues to approach the area from the west and it
will begin to cross the area through daybreak Friday. A line of
showers and thunderstorms has developed across central
Pennsylvania, and this expected to progress across the area
ahead of the cold front overnight into early Friday morning.
Looking at the soundings, there will likely be a fairly strong
low- level inversion, but lift due to the dynamics of the system
will likely be strong enough to tap into the elevated
instability that is forecast with CAPE values likely to reach
1000-2000 J/kt. While storms may not be rooted at the surface,
mid level winds of 40-60 knots are expected to move across the
area, so there will be the potential for some strong to damaging
winds to make it down to the surface. There is also the
potential for a few rotating storms due to veering winds with
height, so an isolated tornado cannot be ruled out. The greatest
threat at this time for stronger storms looks to be along a
line from Berks County- Mercer County-Ocean County northward.
All that said, widespread severe thunderstorms are unlikely.
There will still be a chance of showers and thunderstorms south
of this line, but the greatest threat for stronger storms is
north. PW values increase to 1.5-1.75 inches, so moderate to
heavy rainfall will also be possible.
On Friday, the showers and thunderstorms will be ongoing around
daybreak. This activity will push quickly offshore through the
mid morning hours, as the cold front moves offshore. Once the
front moves through, most shower/thunderstorm activity will
diminish. However, there could be some isolated
showers/thunderstorms that may develop later in the day as
another short wave/vorticity impulse moves across the area and
interacts with a post-frontal surface trough.

.SHORT TERM /TONIGHT THROUGH SUNDAY/...
No significant changes with the weekend forecast. The mid level
low will slowly build northeastward towards northern Maine and
Atlantic Canada late on Saturday night. The primary short wave
trough axis rotating around the low is expected to pass overhead
early on Saturday. Surface high pressure is anticipated to
build eastward from the Ohio River Valley toward the waters off
the Middle Atlantic Coast. As a result, we are anticipating dry
weather and below normal temperatures for Friday night through
Sunday.
A mostly clear sky is anticipated for Friday night. The
cyclonic flow and a pool of cool air aloft (around 8C to 10C at
850 HPa) should allow for the development of a fair amount of
daytime cumulus both days assuming moisture is sufficient for
cloud development, especially over eastern Pennsylvania, and
northern and central New Jersey. The cumulus will likely
dissipate with the loss of heating during the evening and
overnight period.

.LONG TERM /SUNDAY NIGHT THROUGH THURSDAY/...
A mid level ridge is expected to remain centered over Missouri
and vicinity from Saturday through Wednesday, keeping us under
the influence of a northwest flow aloft. There are large
differences between models on the timing of the early week cold
front. Some guidance has the main cold front arriving as early
as Monday night, while others show an initial weak cold front
arriving then, but then the main cold air advection doesn't
arrive until later in the day on Tuesday.
Temperatures should rise to around 90 degrees in much of our
area on Monday. Depending on the timing of the front on Tuesday,
we could see one more day of highs in the upper 90s to near 80
before returning to daytime highs mostly in the 80s for
the remainder of the work week. The northwest flow will likely
prevent the return of any excessively humid conditions. Dew
point readings should stay mainly in the 60s.
There is not a strong signal for any precipitation even with the
cold front, primarily due to a lack of moisture advection ahead
of the front. That being said, we kept a 20 - 30 % chance of
rain during the Tuesday evening time period, but this may need
be adjusted depending on the timing of the front.

.AVIATION /04Z FRIDAY THROUGH TUESDAY/...
The following discussion is for KPHL, KPNE, KTTN, KABE, KRDG,
KILG, KMIV, KACY and surrounding areas.
Overnight...MVFR ceilings are likely to persist along a line
from RDG- PHL-ACY northward through around 09Z or so. These
ceilings will likely lift as showers and thunderstorms move into
the area from around 09-12Z as a cold front moves through. The
most likely chance for thunderstorms and lower conditions is
expected north of PHL, along a line from RDG-TTN- BLM northward.
South to southeast winds 5-10 knots, becoming south to
southwest overnight for many areas. Moderate confidence overall.
Friday...Showers and thunderstorms moving through the area right
around daybreak with potential lower conditions. Once the showers
and thunderstorms move out of the area, conditions return to VFR for
the remainder of the day. Winds shift to the west-northwest
behind the front and become gusty 15-25 knots. High confidence.

Seas are expected to build along the Atlantic Ocean waters
overnight from south to north. A Small Craft Advisory remain in
effect starting overnight tonight for the Atlantic coastal
waters. The advisory will expire Friday morning from Great Egg
Inlet southward, but has been extended through the day north of
Great Egg Inlet as seas could last longer into the day for
northern areas.

Saturday through Tuesday...No marine headlines are anticipated.
Rip currents...
Friday, SW to W winds will range from 10 to 20 mph with gusts
up to 25 mph. Breaking waves will range from 2 to 4 feet with an
increasing SE swell. There will be a MODERATE risk for the
development of dangerous rip currents at NJ beaches and a LOW
risk for the development of dangerous rip currents at DE
beaches.
Looking into Sat. Wind amd seas should settle, so LOW risk is
anticipated.
