.SYNOPSIS...
An upper-level trough over the Mid-Atlantic will gradually lift
offshore tonight. The next low pressure system will track across the
Great Lakes Monday, pushing a cold front toward our area late day.
As this low slides across our area later Tuesday into Wednesday, the
cold front will cross our region. Weak high pressure may then settle
near our area Thursday and Friday before another low pressure system
approaches next weekend as it moves into the lower Great Lakes.

&&

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH MONDAY NIGHT/...
Summary...Very warm and humid conditions through the near term.
Showers and thunderstorms remain mostly scattered through Monday
morning. Thunderstorms then become widespread during the
afternoon and evening hours on Monday when severe thunderstorms
are possible with damaging winds and hail as the main threats
along with a non-zero tornado threat. There is also some flash
flood risk Monday into Monday night.

For the remainder of Sunday and into Sunday night, scattered
showers and thunderstorms are expected to continue. We have
seen heavy downpours recorded at automated gauges and received
reports of small hail and gusty winds around 40 mph. Isolated
stronger storms capable of producing gusty winds of around 40
to 50 mph and small hail continue to remain possible through
this evening. Heavy downpours may result in localized flooding,
particularly in locations where multiple showers and storms pass
over the same area. As we head later in the evening and lose
daytime heating, the showers and storms will tend to weaken and
many areas will dry out for a time. With a strengthening low-
level jet across the area ahead of an eastward moving upper-
level trough, some scattered showers and thunderstorms may re-
initiate, particularly across northwest New Jersey and the
southern Poconos. Otherwise, low temperatures are forecast to be
in the 60s across much of the area.

For Monday, an upper-level trough is forecast to be tracking across
the Great Lakes and Ohio Valley. Plenty of moisture will be in place
and therefore it will be humid once again, although plenty of
boundary layer heating may result in the surface dew points lowering
some. Areas of stratus may greet us to start the day, however that
should lift and breakup through the morning into the afternoon. The
heating combined with dew points around 70F will result in ample
instability for showers and thunderstorms to quickly develop by
midday, however these should initially be isolated to scattered.

Deeper convection is forecast to develop to our west near a pre-
frontal trough. The model forecast soundings indicate some discrete
cells out that way should quickly consolidate into a convective line
as it shifts eastward. An examination of model point forecast
soundings indicate ample instability developing along with rather
steep low-level lapse rates, and the mid level lapse are on the
steeper side as well. The shear profiles are somewhat on the weaker
side, however model soundings show some initial backed low-level
flow with around 30 knots of shear. This would be enough when
combined with strong forcing for ascent arriving for the risk for
severe thunderstorms. Storms should organize into a line as it
approaches our region with damaging winds and some hail the main
threats. Given the backed near surface flow ahead of the line,
cannot rule out some rotation within the eastward advancing squall
line (QLCS) especially across Delmarva. CAM guidance shows
convection quickly becoming linear, with even some hinting at strong
outflow winds. Given the steep low-level lapse rates, downdraft
instability (DCAPE) should be on the high side, which will enhance
convective winds down to the surface especially associated with any
forward surges in the line. With increased confidence in
linear thunderstorm segments capable of producing damaging
winds forming, the Storm Prediction Center now has much of our
area south of the I-78 corridor in an Enhanced risk (level 3 of
5) for severe thunderstorms on Monday. Most rest of the area
outside of the southern Poconos is in a Slight risk (level 2 of
5) for severe thunderstorms on Monday. While the convective line
moves off the coast during the early evening, some additional
convection may still move through although this should be weaker
and less organized. Eventually as the environment becomes
worked over, convection should be on the decrease overnight.

In addition to the severe thunderstorm risk, areas of heavy rain
look probable given precipitable water values forecast to be 1.50 to
nearly 2 inches. This abundant moisture is an indicator for the
potential for excessive rainfall. The Weather Prediction Center has
most of our area in a Slight risk for excessive rainfall Monday. In
addition, south to southwesterly flow may foster some training cells
which would enhance the local flash flood threat. The rainfall is
needed, however excessive hourly rainfall rates would locally
enhance the flash flood potential especially in the urban areas. A
caveat to this would be if the high rainfall rates only occur with a
steady eastward moving squall line, as this will limit the duration
of the heaviest rain.

It will be very warm Monday especially if convection holds off
longer and more sunshine can occur. Heat indices are forecast to top
out around 90 degrees for much of the I-95 corridor especially, with
even low to mid 90s in Delmarva.

.SHORT TERM /TUESDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...
The short term period will look to remain rather unsettled overall.
Occluding low pressure is expected to be located near/over the
Great Lakes region to start the period as the cold front
associated with it continues to approach. This cold front will
look to pass through the region sometime during the Tuesday
night to Wednesday morning time frame, though confidence on
exact timing remains rather uncertain. Though guidance indicates
this cold front may actually slow down or even stall some after
crossing into our area, the main story of this boundary is that
it will do little to offer us relief from the unsettled pattern
we have been seeing. Even with the low pressure system north of
the region Wednesday and the main boundaries offshore, stalling
and continued occlusion keeps Wednesday unsettled as well.

For Tuesday, the forecast will carry mainly likely and categorical
chance PoPs as the front approaches. Warm air advection will
continue over the region but should not be as pronounced as the day
before. Regardless of this fact however, daytime heating and the
overall pattern should allow for instability, showers and
thunderstorms to be seen again during the afternoon and evening time
frame. SPC currently has our CWA under a Marginal Risk. Highs will
look to be in the low 80s across the region with dew points in the
upper 60s to low 70s. Specific Humidity (Q) and Precipitable
Water (PW) values will look to be well above climatology.

For Tuesday night, the forecast will carry mainly likely and chance
PoPs with PoP chance generally decreasing towards Wednesday morning;
showers/thunderstorms and general thunder remains possible.
Temperatures and dewpoints in the mid-60s across the region are
anticipated. Q/PW values will look to be well above climatology.

For Wednesday, mainly chance PoPs across the region increase to
mainly likely and categorical north of Delmarva. Daytime
heating and the overall pattern may allow for instability,
showers and thunderstorms to be seen again during the afternoon
and evening time frame. High temperatures in the upper 70s to
low 80s accompanied by dewpoints in the mid to upper 60s are
anticipated. Q/PW values will look to be well above climatology.

.LONG TERM /WEDNESDAY NIGHT THROUGH SUNDAY/...
The long term forecast looks to be more of the same, i.e., an
overall unsettled pattern continuing. In the upper levels the
ensembles support an upper level trough/trough axis over the eastern
CONUS Wednesday night lingering over the area and offshore through
the Saturday night time frame, though looking to break down and
decrease in magnitude with time. Weak high pressure to our southwest
maybe present over TN/VA/WV/NC Thursday, but low pressure to the
north/northeast coupled with upper level troughing/shortwave
energy may continue to keep the area unsettled. This will also
be the story for Friday and Saturday at this point, though no
major synoptic fronts look to be in the forecast, just continued
shortwave energy and troughing.

The forecast will carry chance and slight chance PoPs every period
during the long term. The greatest chance for PoPs will be during
the afternoon periods for each day as daytime heating will lead
instability/shower generation and the possibility of thunderstorms.
Temperatures will look to be around average during the duration of
the long term as will PW/Q values.

.AVIATION /20Z SUNDAY THROUGH FRIDAY/...
The following discussion is for KPHL, KPNE, KTTN, KABE, KRDG, KILG,
KMIV, KACY and surrounding areas...

Through 0Z...Widely scattered showers and thunderstorms will
continue across the area this afternoon before diminishing in
coverage and intensity early this evening. Best chance for seeing
storms at any of the TAF sites will be for PNE, TTN, RDG, and ABE
with a lower threat for the sites farther south. Sub VFR conditions
possible in any storms with visbys potentially getting down to
around a mile due to +RA. Winds generally S to SW around 5-10 knots
but there will be variability due to storms and associated outflow
boundaries. Also, any storms could briefly produce winds to 30 knots
or higher. Moderate confidence overall but low confidence regarding
whether any individual TAF site will see a storm with associated
winds and restrictions.

Tonight...SW flow 5-10 kts plus lingering clouds may keep patchy
mist/fog from forming, but it will be a concern. Evening will see
most convection dwindle, but next system approaching then looks to
see more SHRA and possibly even TSRA redevelop overnight with best
chances for RDG and ABE. MVFR likely in any SHRA overnight. Moderate
confidence overall.

Monday...Restrictions to MVFR possible in the morning with AM round
of showers/storms that looks to mainly affect areas north of PHL.
Otherwise mainly VFR through early afternoon. Then more
thunderstorms expected by late afternoon into the evening that could
potentially take the form of a squall line with damaging wind gusts
of 40 to 50 knots. Low confidence still on these details though.
Southerly winds 10-15 knots during the day, diminishing to 5-10
knots at night.

Outlook...

Tuesday and Wednesday...VFR, however some times of sub-VFR
conditions possible with some mainly afternoon and early evening
showers and thunderstorms. Southerly winds around 10 knots, becoming
westerly Wednesday 10 knots or less. Low confidence.

Thursday and Friday...Sub-VFR conditions possible with some
scattered showers and thunderstorms, mainly in the afternoon and
early evening, otherwise VFR. Also, storm chances/coverage lowering
compared to early in the week, especially by Friday. Low
confidence.

.MARINE...
No marine headlines expected through Sunday night. Scattered
showers and thunderstorms which could result in brief periods of
heavy rain. South/southeasterly wind 10-15 knots. Seas 2-3
feet. On Monday, Small Craft Advisory conditions are possible as
seas begin to build to 3 to 5 feet with gusts up to 25 knots
possible. Some showers and thunderstorms. Thunderstorms may
produce strong winds later Monday afternoon and evening, and
therefore Special Marine Warnings may be needed

Outlook...

Tuesday/Tuesday Night...SCA conditions likely. S/SW wind gusts of 20
to 25 kts possible, seas 5 to 6 feet.

Wednesday/Wednesday Night...SCA conditions possible as seas linger
near 5 feet.
