.SYNOPSIS...
Low pressure across the upper Great Lakes tonight will shift
eastward and strengthen through Friday. Another low pressure
system will develop off the coast and track northward toward
New England by Saturday. The low will then lift toward the
Canadian Maritimes on Sunday, followed by high pressure for
next week.

&&

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TODAY/...
High level cloudiness continues to stream across our region
from the south and southwest well ahead of an amplifying upper-
level trough. An area of mid and lower clouds are working
northward from southeastern Virginia associated with the leading
edge of increasing low-level theta-e advection. This is from
the surface to about 925 mb, and there is also a southerly low-
level jet of near 35 knots tracking northward. It is within
this deepening moisture plume and increasing southerly flow
where the guidance continues to focus a developing area of
showers northward, although there are still some differences
among the guidance on how far west these showers get. The bulk
of the precipitation is currently situated offshore as of 2AM
where the nose of the higher theta-e air has advected further
north. Expect that radar returns across Delmarva and southern
New Jersey will increase in coverage over the next couple hours
as the nose of the low level jet encroaches and warm, moist
advection continues with the southerly flow.

Otherwise, surface low pressure over the upper Great Lakes will
move eastward while in the upper levels an upper trough will
amplify over the eastern CONUS in response to a 130 knot upper-
level jet streak diving south and east. This upper trough will
also start to take on more of a neutral tilt. Meanwhile moisture
will also start to stream northward along the East Coast ahead
of the developing coastal system. This will result in skies
clouding over with some showers moving in overnight but mainly
over eastern parts of the forecast area. So these showers would
be mainly for Delaware, NJ, and SE PA. Expect overnight lows
mainly in the 50s except some upper 40s possible over the
southern Poconos.

For Friday, a complex weather pattern will continue to evolve
over the eastern CONUS as the upper-level trough continues to
amplify while reaching the coast and a surface low lingers near
Lake Huron. With time though during the day Friday, a new
surface low develops towards the Mid-Atlantic coast. As such,
expect showers to persist through the morning into the first
part of the afternoon but mainly over the areas in eastern parts
of our forecast area mentioned above. Farther west towards
places like Berks County these showers may just be brief and
passing. Also worth noting, there will be some instability
working in so we continue to mention a slight chance for
isolated thunderstorms. And with PWATS rising to around 1.25+
inches, these could be capable of producing locally heavy
rainfall. Expect Friday's highs mainly in the 60s to around 70
over Delmarva and it will also be just a little on the muggy
side with dew points rising to around 60 or so. Following this
first round of showers late tonight through about midday
Friday, there may actually be a lull in showers with even some
sunny breaks possible.

.SHORT TERM /TONIGHT THROUGH SUNDAY/...
By early Friday evening, primary low will still be over
southern Ontario with a trailing cold front extending southward
across PA into Virginia. Meanwhile the secondary low will be
taking shape near the Virginia coast in response to the base of
a deep upper level trough digging into the SE CONUS. As this
strong and deep upper level trough pivots east/northeast through
Friday night it will start to take on a negative tilt which is
indicative of significant energy associated with the system.
The associated forcing will cause the two surface lows to merge
off the coast of NJ by the overnight period. In terms of
sensible weather for our area, another round of showers with
embedded storms will move through during the evening associated
with the cold front but this could linger in the overnight
period, especially over northern NJ, as the system starts to get
more organized. Once again, there will be the potential for
embedded heavier downpours.

By Saturday morning, the low should be near southern New England
or Long Island with any steadier rain/showers coming to an end
in the mid Atlantic. This low will then continue to rapidly
deepen as it pulls away to the north and east passing near Cape
Cod en route to Nova Scotia. In its wake there will be a
strengthening pressure gradient meaning that strong and gusty
winds will be the main story for Saturday across the area.
Expect WNW winds 15 to 25 gusting 30 to potentially as high as
40 mph. The day should feature variable cloud cover with
lingering scattered showers on the backside of the storm system
associated as well with the lingering trough in the upper
levels. Expect highs mainly in the 60 to 65 range except 50s
over the Pocono Plateau.

Saturday night through Sunday, deep low pressure will continue
to move away to the north and east as it moves from the Canadian
Maritimes into Atlantic Canada while high pressure builds south
and east from central Canada towards the midwestern states. This
will keep a strong pressure gradient over the area much of this
time with continuing gusty west to northwest winds and a cooling
trend in temperatures. It should become mainly dry though with
variable cloud cover. Expect the strongest of the winds will
diminish at night for Saturday night, due to the diurnal cycle /
lack of mixing, before picking up again for Sunday with gusts of
30 to 40 mph once again possible. Expect lows Saturday night
mainly in the 40s with highs Sunday mainly in the 50s, except
possibly remaining in the upper 40s over the Pocono Plateau.

.LONG TERM /SUNDAY NIGHT THROUGH THURSDAY/...
A trough axis will pass on Sunday Night. Guidance has come into
better agreement since yesterday, preferring the more progressive
solution, which will bring dry weather through the extended.

Modest cold air advection will continue as an area of low pressure
departs, with high pressure building in. This will promote steady
northwest flow through Sunday night. Winds should diminish a bit
overnight as the gradient weakens, but it looks to remain breezy
enough to preclude the development of any frost Sunday night/Monday
morning. Lows will be in the upper 30s/low 40s, with more rural
locations and areas at elevation dropping into the mid 30s.

High pressure at the surface will begin to take hold come Monday.
Winds will diminish even further as the surface high moves overhead
by Tuesday.  An upper level ridge will begin to build in during the
early part of next week, promoting a gradual warming trend. The
coolest day will be Monday, with highs struggling to get out of the
50s. We will have to watch the potential for frost/freeze on Monday
Night/Tuesday morning as ideal radiational cooling conditions are
expected to set up. Winds will go light/calm with clear skies
overnight. Guidance has trended slightly warmer, but some of the NBM
probabilistic guidance has values greater than 50% for
temperatures at or below freezing within the southern Poconos,
rural northern NJ, and the NJ Pinelands. These will be the main
areas to watch but we have a long way to go to see how things
trend. Temperatures should be high enough within Delmarva, along
the NJ coast, and within the urban corridor to preclude the
development of frost.

Looking high and dry through the middle of next week as high
pressure moves overhead and slowly slides offshore. Temperatures
Tuesday will get into the low to mid 60s, with upper 60s/low 70s
Wednesday and Thursday. Lows Tuesday night will stay in the 40s, but
some 50s are possible Wednesday night as it looks to be quite mild
as we get towards the end of the month.

.AVIATION /06Z FRIDAY THROUGH TUESDAY/...
The following discussion is for KPHL, KPNE, KTTN, KABE, KRDG,
KILG, KMIV, KACY and surrounding areas.

Tonight...VFR for awhile with clouds increasing and gradually
lowering. MVFR ceilings are expected to start developing late,
with some showers also moving into areas from about KPHL on
south and eastward after about 08z. KMIV/KACY may see periodic
brief reductions to IFR ceilings, though confidence on this is
low. A period of mainly MVFR visibilities should accompany the
showers as well. Southeasterly winds mainly around 5 knots. Low
confidence on the timing of the ceiling restrictions and also
how far north and west the showers get by daybreak.

Friday...MVFR to possibly IFR ceilings for a time in the
morning, then most terminals should improve to VFR for the
afternoon. Showers through about early afternoon with times of
MVFR to perhaps local IFR visibilities. Southeast winds 8-12
knots, becoming south to south-southwest during the afternoon.
Some gusts up to 20 knots possible, mainly at KACY. Low
confidence on the timing details, including the showers ending
and also improvement to VFR.

Outlook...

Friday Night...Sub-VFR conditions likely as another round of
rain moves through. Southeast winds will become westerly after
midnight, around 5-10 kt. Moderate confidence.

Saturday through Saturday Night...Sub-VFR conditions possible
in the morning, before lifting to VFR by the late morning/early
afternoon. Winds increase to 10-15 kt out of the west with gusts
to 25 kt. Moderate confidence.

Sunday...VFR. West/northwest winds around 15-20 kt with gusts
30 to 35 kt. High confidence.

Sunday Night...VFR. West/northwest winds around 10-15 kt with
gusts 20 to 25 kt. High confidence.

Monday...VFR. Northwest winds around 10-15 kt with gusts around
20 kt. High confidence.

Monday Night...VFR. Northwest winds around 5-10 kt. Moderate
confidence.

Tuesday...VFR. South/Southwest winds around 5-10 kt. Moderate
