.SYNOPSIS...
Low pressure tracks across the eastern Great Lakes region
tonight then gradually weakens while a new low develops toward
coastal New England through tonight. The low moves into the
Canadian Maritimes on Thursday, then high pressure builds to our
south Friday and Saturday. A cold front moves through our area
Sunday night into Monday, then it may lift back north as a warm
front later Tuesday into Wednesday along with low pressure.

&&

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH THURSDAY/...
Occluding low pressure over Lake Erie this evening will
continue to move northeastward toward northern New York tonight.
A developing secondary low near Chesapeake Bay will track
northeast across our region tonight, lifting northeast across
New England by dawn on Thursday.

2 to 3 inches of snow fell earlier today from Reading across the
Lehigh Valley and the Poconos, with a localized spot or two
reaching 4 inches. An inch or two also fell across Warren,
Sussex and Morris Counties in New Jersey, and even northeast
Hunterdon County. A coating fell in some spots around the far
northwestern suburbs of Philadelphia, otherwise the I-95
corridor just saw rain today. With strong warm air advection
and east to southeast winds at the surface continuing, we have
seen precipitation across our entire county warning area
transition to rain this evening.

While a dry slot farther east than model guidance suggested kept
snow totals around the Poconos lower than expected,
precipitation has filled in across our area this evening. Rain
has been moderate to heavy at times throughout our region,
especially toward Delaware and New Jersey, with some hourly
rainfall rates over a quarter-inch, and some isolated embedded
rumbles of thunder. Forecast rainfall totals are expected to
fall mainly in the 1.0 to 1.5 inch range. Those amounts could
result in localized flooding in areas of poor drainage and
noticeable rises on area streams and creeks. However, widespread
flooding from the rain is not likely. Temperatures will
continue to rise into tonight, with readings well into the 50s
along and to the southeast of the Interstate 95 Corridor, and
the 40s in areas to the northwest.

Winds are gradually ramping up this evening, but with a strong
inversion in place most gusts away from the coast have been
below 25 mph. Wind speeds will be stronger near the coast with
sustained speeds of 25 to 35 MPH and gusts of 40 to 45 MPH
until the cold front passes by tonight. Our coastal communities
remain under a Wind Advisory until 1:00 AM Thursday. The wind is
anticipated to become south to southwest overnight, decreasing
to 10 to 20 MPH toward morning.

As the deepening surface low moves across Maine and New Brunswick,
Canada on Thursday we will be in a brisk west flow in its wake. A
west wind of 15 to 25 MPH with gusts of 30 to 40 MPH is forecast.
The cold advection pattern will likely result in a fair amount of
stratocumulus. Highs should favor the 40s, with reading staying in
the 30s in the elevated terrain up north.

.SHORT TERM /THURSDAY NIGHT THROUGH SATURDAY NIGHT/...
An upper-level trough axis will gradually shift across our area
Friday as it weakens. Strong low pressure will lift across the
Canadian Maritimes Thursday night and a narrow surface high pressure
area then builds in during Friday. Low pressure is forecast to then
track north of the Great Lakes region later Friday into Saturday
with a warm front moving across the Great Lakes into the Northeast.
A weak cold front will then follow. This system is forecast to
weaken some as it shifts deeper into eastern Canada Saturday.

Our sensible weather is currently forecast to be on the quiet side
as one strong storm continues to move farther away Thursday night,
then high pressure remains nearby with just a weak system grazing
our area Friday night or Saturday. Moisture does not look to be all
that much and therefore no precipitation is forecast. The gusty
winds of Thursday are expected to quickly diminish Thursday night as
the pressure gradient weakens and the vertical mixing decreases.
Lingering lake effect closest to the lakes Thursday night may still
keep some cloudiness into parts of our region, then a system sliding
well to our north Friday into Saturday may result in some warm air
advection induced cloudiness for a time. Temperatures should be
about a few degrees above average.

&&

.LONG TERM /SUNDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...
Summary...Near or above average temperatures, although some notable
cooling is possible Tuesday and Wednesday. Some precipitation
chances centered on later Sunday and again later Tuesday and
Wednesday.

Synoptic Overview...A positive-tilt upper-level trough from central
to eastern Canada back toward the central Rockies is forecast to
gradually shift eastward. This initially drives weak low pressure to
our west Sunday with a weak front settling across our region Sunday
night into Monday. This front may tend to stall just to our south
and as additional energy arrives from the west, low pressure may
develop along it and pull the front back north as a warm front later
Tuesday into Wednesday. Some opportunities for some precipitation,
although it may continue to be mostly in the form of rain.

For Sunday and Monday...Well ahead of a positively tilted upper-
level trough, surface low pressure is forecast to track to our west
and north. The energy overall may tend to shear northeastward as it
moves through the more west to southwest flow aloft. This may result
in the more organized precipitation shield to our west breaking up
as it moves through our region along with an associated cold front.
This front is currently forecast to settle to our south during
Monday. We opted to keep the PoPs in the slight chance to chance
range as the intensity of the system moving through may be on the
weaker side.

For Tuesday and Wednesday...High pressure should be nearby to start
however as the upper-level trough to our west gets closer, energy
across the southern states should activate surface low pressure
along a front. This may push the boundary back north as a warm front
later Tuesday into Wednesday as low pressure tracks along it. Some
guidance indicates it turns colder Tuesday and Wednesday. The timing
and magnitude of this storm however is less certain though and this
will determine temperatures as well. Some guidance does suggest that
late Tuesday and especially Wednesday could turn rather unsettled.
Given greater uncertainty, we went mainly with the National Blend of
Models (NBM) guidance.

.AVIATION /03Z THURSDAY THROUGH MONDAY/...
The following discussion is for KPHL, KPNE, KTTN, KABE, KRDG,
KILG, KMIV, KACY and surrounding areas.

Through tonight...LIFR or IFR conditions have become widespread,
mainly due to ceilings, but some IFR VSBY is being reported in
heavier rain, along with some fog over the higher terrain in
eastern Pennsylvania. Those conditions will persist until a cold
front passes by overnight, with improvement (07Z to 10Z) from
west to east. LLWS will be present with strong SE to S winds
aloft until the front approaches, with winds easing somewhat
toward 04-06Z or so. Surface winds E/SE early then shifting to
SW/W later tonight. Medium confidence overall.

Thursday...Clouds will linger across the NW terminals (KRDG/KABE)
while clouds and sun for the Delaware Valley and srn NJ sites.
CIGS will be VFR however. Gusty winds will develop around
13Z/14Z from the west at 15 to 20 kts with gusts up to 30 kts
possible. Medium/high confidence.

Outlook...

Thursday night...VFR. West winds quickly diminishing to 10 knots or
less. High confidence.

Friday...VFR. West winds 5-10 knots becoming southwest in the
afternoon, then locally light and variable at night. High confidence.

Saturday...VFR. West winds 10-15 knots with gusts up to 20 knots.
Medium confidence.

Sunday and Monday...Mainly VFR, however there is the chance for some
showers Sunday night into Monday. Southwest winds around 10 knots
Sunday becoming west to northwest at night and diminishing some,
then north-northwest winds around 10 knots Monday. Low
confidence.

.MARINE...
A secondary low pressure system tracking northeast toward our
region this evening will continue to tighten the pressure
gradient and result in southeast winds ramping up over the
coastal waters. Gusts of 35 to 40 knots are anticipated,
particularly over the open ocean. As a result, the Gale Warning
continues for the coastal waters of Delaware and New Jersey and
for Delaware Bay.

As the low moves into New England, wind speeds should drop into the
15 to 25 MPH range for a time from late tonight into early Thursday
morning. However, with the low deepening, speeds will likely recover
into the 20 to 30 knot range with gale force gusts returning. The
Gale Warning remains in effect until 4:00 PM Thursday to cover both
periods with gale force gusts. The exception may be across
Delware Bay and the adjacent coastal waters southward, where
gusts up to 30 kt will be possible, but short of Gale Warning
criteria...thus we may transition to a Small Craft Advisory
earlier there.

Wave heights on our ocean waters are mainly 6 to 9 feet at 10
PM, but forecast to build to 8 to 12 feet, with waves on
Delaware Bay generally reaching 3 to 6 feet. Seas will lower as
winds shift to westerly through Thursday, but conditions will
remain rough.

Outlook...

Thursday night...Small Craft Advisory conditions in the evening,
then improving conditions.

Friday...The conditions are anticipated to be below Small Craft
Advisory criteria.

Saturday...A period of wind gusts to near 25 knots possible.

Sunday and Monday...The conditions should be below Small Craft
Advisory.

.TIDES/COASTAL FLOODING...
Coastal Flood Advisory remains in effect for Middlesex County and
Monmouth County for the high tide cycle tonight as steady
east/southeast flow will funnel water into the Raritan and Sandy
Hook Bays. Widespread minor flooding is possible with the potential
for locally moderate flooding around Middlesex County. Have opted to
hold off on a Coastal Flood Warning as even the higher side of
guidance keeps Middlesex County in the minor category.

Moving down the coast, coastal and back bay communities around Ocean
County may see spotty minor flooding, though water levels should
stay below advisory criteria. For the rest of the coastal counties
(Atlantic, Cape May, and Sussex, DE), the coastal flood threat is
minimal.

The coastal flood threat around the tidal Delaware River and
Chesapeake Bay is minimal as well. There could be some spotty minor
flooding around the Delaware Bay with southeast flow, but any
inundation should be localized.

After tonight's high tide cycle, the coastal flooding threat will
cease as strong offshore flow will take over on Thursday.
