.SYNOPSIS...
Low pressure will track north and east today as it moves from
New England into the Canadian Maritimes. High pressure builds
to our south Friday and Saturday. A cold front moves through our
area Sunday night into Monday. A new low pressure system may
affect the area by the middle of next week.

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH FRIDAY/...
545 AM...Primary low pressure over upstate New York is weakening
at this time as a secondary low develops off the coast of Maine.
Meanwhile the cold front has moved offshore as of this time
bringing precipitation to an end across the area.
As we head into the day today, the secondary low will continue
to take over as it tracks north and east into the Canadian
Maritimes while deepening. Winds will turn fairly strong and
gusty out of the west due to the pressure gradient and cold air
advection pattern in the low's wake. This will result in
temperatures not rising very much from early morning values as
they should stay generally in the 40s, except 30s over the
southern Poconos. And with winds of 15 to 25 gusting upwards of
30 to 40 mph at times this will result in wind chill values in
the 30s or lower. The day should be precipitation free but
expect considerable cloud cover to persist as the lagging upper
level trough in the surface low's wake will make conditions
favorable for strato-cu development.
Quiet weather is expected for tonight through Friday as high
pressure gradually builds in to our south over the southeastern
States. This will result in a weakening pressure gradient with
easing winds. Lows tonight will be mainly in the 20s to low 30s
with highs Friday generally in the 30s to low 40s. Friday
should feature a mix of sun and clouds with the most sunshine
over southern areas near the coast and the most cloud cover
persisting farther north through eastern PA and northern NJ.

.SHORT TERM /FRIDAY NIGHT THROUGH SATURDAY NIGHT/...
Surface high pressure across the southeastern US continues to build
into the Mid Atlantic, providing a quiet short-term period. A weak
low is forecast to track north of the Great Lakes region Friday
night into Saturday with a subtle warm front moving across the Great
Lakes into the Northeast. Some warm air advection will result in
aftn temps Saturday reaching the mid 40s to low 50s with upper 30s
to low 40s for the Pocono Plateau. A weak cold front will then
follow, but some cloudiness will prevent much radiational cooling
and keep nighttime lows in the upper 20s to mid 30s. No precip is
expected along these frontal boundaries due to a dry airmass in
place.

.LONG TERM /SUNDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...
Summary...Near or above average temperatures, although some notable
cooling is possible Tuesday and Wednesday. Some precipitation
chances centered on later Sunday and again later Tuesday and
Wednesday.
Synoptic Overview...A positively-tilted upper-level trough from
central to eastern Canada back toward the central Rockies is
forecast to gradually shift eastward. This initially drives weak
low pressure to our west Sunday with a weak front settling
south our region Sunday night into Monday as surface high
pressure builds in Monday night and into Tuesday. Another low
pressure system looks to develop along the aforementioned
frontal boundary Tuesday night as another positively tilted
trough swings across the Great Lakes region. Latest
deterministic global guidance suggests a more southerly track
for this low, around the North Carolina/Virginia border,
allowing for our region to remain on the colder side of this
low. With colder temps in place, could see a better chance for
some wintry precip, but too much uncertainty remains in place
for specifics at this time.
For Sunday and Monday...Well ahead of a positively tilted upper-
level trough, surface low pressure is forecast to track to our west
and north. The energy overall may tend to shear northeastward as it
moves through the more west to southwest flow aloft. This may result
in the more organized precipitation shield to our west breaking up
as it moves through our region along with an associated cold front.
This front is currently forecast to settle to our south during
Monday. We opted to maintain the PoPs in the slight chance to chance
range as the intensity of the system moving through may be on the
weaker side.
For Tuesday and Wednesday...High pressure should be nearby to start
however as the upper-level trough to our west gets closer, energy
across the southern states should activate surface low pressure
along a front. As mentioned in the synoptic overview, latest global
deterministic guidance has suggested a more southerly track for this
low, keeping us in the colder side of the low, thus increasing the
probability for some wintry precip. With that said, the timing and
magnitude of this storm remains highly uncertain this far out. As a
result, we toed the line and stick with the National Blend of Models
(NBM) guidance.

.AVIATION /12Z THURSDAY THROUGH MONDAY/...
The following discussion is for KPHL, KPNE, KTTN, KABE, KRDG,
KILG, KMIV, KACY and surrounding areas.
Today...Mainly VFR with a broken deck predominating around 4000
feet. Exceptions will be at KABE and KRDG where cigs may hover
between low VFR and high end MVFR. West winds 15 to 20 gusting
25 to 35 knots. Moderate confidence.
Tonight....VFR with west winds diminishing to around 10 knots.
Outlook...
Friday...VFR with west winds around 10 knots.
Saturday...VFR. West winds 10-15 knots with gusts up to 20 knots.
Medium confidence.
Sunday and Monday...Mainly VFR, however there is the chance for some
showers Sunday night into Monday. Southwest winds around 10 knots
Sunday becoming west to northwest at night and diminishing some,
then north-northwest winds around 10 knots Monday. Low
confidence.

.MARINE...
Winds have diminished some for the time being but are expected to
increase out of the west as we head into the day today in the
wake of a cold front. Expect west winds of 20 to 30 gusting up
to 35 knots over the ocean waters and the southern Delaware Bay
where a Gale Warning remains in effect. Over the northern
Delaware Bay, winds should be a bit lower so we've downgraded
the Gale Warning to a Small Craft Advisory here. Generally
expect seas over the ocean zones of 6 to 9 feet for Thursday.
Winds and seas diminish late day Thursday through Thursday night
with all marine zones expected to be below Small Craft Advisory
level conditions by Friday morning.
