.SYNOPSIS...
As one area of low pressure tracks across the eastern Great Lakes
tonight and Saturday morning, another low tracks offshore on
Saturday. The next low, which is the stronger one, lifts across
our area later Sunday before moving into New England early
Monday. A series of weaker systems then slide across our region
through the first half of next week, then weak high pressure
gradually approaches our area Thursday into Friday.

&&

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TODAY/...
Early overnight radar mosaic depicts a shield of rain continuing to
push north across the area. Mesoanalysis shows a surface low
centered across Ohio and moving north with a south-southeasterly 850
mb low level jet overhead. The nose of highest PWATs (1.0-1.3 in) is
just now pushing into southern Delmarva as warm, moist advection
continues with the low level jet and veering of winds with
height. As a result, some locations across Delmarva have seen
rain rates up to a half to three quarters of an inch per hour
over the last couple hours. A flood advisory was issued to cover
this threat as gauges are showing up to 2 inches falling in the
past three hours across central Delaware, and some moderate
rain rates will continue for the next few hours. For the rest of
the overnight, expect that as the low pulls further north, we
will lose some forcing for ascent and rain will begin to
diminish from south to north close to daybreak. Dry air will
subsequently work in aloft, but low-level moisture advection
and onshore flow at the surface will maintain the low cloud
cover.

Previous discussion... Categorical pops will remain in the fcst.
Not expecting thunder for most of this evening, at least until after
midnight, when SREF/HREF calibrated probabilities and modeled
elevated CAPE suggest some rumbles may creep northward over eastern
MD and DE, but that will just be a slight chance.  Some patches of
light fog are possible, but with winds staying up all night in a
well-mixed boundary layer, do not expect visibility to be less than
a mile or two. Winds away from the coast tonight generally sustained
around 15 mph, with some gusts over 25 mph at times. Stronger
easterly winds will be found tonight particularly near the immediate
coast, where some localized spots will gust 40 to 45 mph at times.
Temperatures will remain cool but steady overnight, with mostly 50s
but some 40s over eastern PA. Total rainfall overnight will range
from around 1/2 inch for the far northern areas to 1-1/2 inches for
shore areas of NJ and some locally around metro
Wilmington/Philadelphia.

For Saturday, there is a pause in the wet weather between the two
systems, particularly during the afternoon as rain lifts out from
south to north, but clouds and a cool wind will be over most areas
much of the day. Any breaks would be across Delmarva probably during
the afternoon. Some spotty light rain may linger north of Trenton
well into the afternoon. Highs will be below normal with low/mid 50s
for the NW areas and upper 50s/low 60s for south NJ and metro
Philadelphia. We'll keep the upper 60s for south-most DE as even if
there are few breaks, some milder air may advect in. Winds Saturday
will favor the E/NE most locals with speeds mostly around 10 mph for
most areas. However, the NJ shore near and north of Atlantic City,
especially from Barnegat Light to Sandy Hook will have brisk
conditions especially in the morning, with east winds 15 to 25 mph
gusting near 40 mph at times early.

&&

.SHORT TERM /TONIGHT THROUGH MONDAY NIGHT/...
Another round of much needed rain moves across the entire region
Sunday, especially from mid-morning through the evening. Below
average temperatures continue.

A closed low centered over the Great Lakes region will circulate
substantial shortwave energy up the East Coast through Sunday. This
will organize surface low pressure across the Southeast U.S.
Saturday night into Sunday morning, then this low strengthens as it
lifts across the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast during Sunday.
Increasing forcing for ascent coupled with deep moisture transport
will result in another round of rain across the area. Some rain
should be occurring Saturday evening mainly across the northern
zones, then mainly just left with cloud cover with perhaps some
drizzle. Onshore flow will continue to keep temperatures down,
although they may tend to be nearly steady Saturday night.

As we go through Sunday, deepening surface low pressure is forecast
to cross our area later in the day or evening with a corridor of
stronger forcing for ascent. Wind profiles show strong veering with
height and this will assist in robust moisture transport and also
warm air advection above a more marine layer. As a result, the rain
is expected to be heavy at times especially Sunday afternoon and
evening. In addition, at least some elevated instability developing
northward during Sunday could be enough to get some embedded thunder
for a time especially tied to an east to southeast low-level jet of
about 40-50 knots. The forecast soundings show a well established
low-level inversion in place, therefore much of the wind should
struggle to mix down to the surface although there will still be a
notable to gusty breeze for a time. Rainfall totals with this round
should be around an inch across the region, however amounts will
vary higher or lower depending on how much convective contribution
occurs. While this is needed rainfall, precipitable water values
nearing 1.50 inches Sunday will result in times of higher rainfall
rates which will enhance the runoff particularly in the more urban
areas. This could result in times of some mainly minor urban type
ponding/flooding.

The trough axis to our west may start to take on some negative tilt
Sunday night and this should accelerate the surface lows movement
into New England overnight. This translates to a quicker end to the
rain/thunder. This quicker exit will result in improving conditions
Monday as a dry slot moves across the area. However, given cyclonic
flow, some additional mainly afternoon showers cannot be ruled out
especially from near and north/west of I-95. Temperatures are
expected to remain below average with highs in the 50s and 60s for
both Sunday and Monday.

&&

.LONG TERM /TUESDAY THROUGH FRIDAY/...
Summary...Temperatures below average for much of the time, although
some warming is forecast for the end of the week. Some shower
chances continue into Wednesday, then again Friday.

Synoptic Overview...An expansive closed low is forecast to gradually
shift eastward from the Great Lakes region and across the Northeast
and Mid-Atlantic Tuesday into Wednesday. Some weak ridging may then
arrive Thursday before another upper-level trough from the Midwest
shifts eastward into Friday. At the surface, some weak disturbances
swing across our area Tuesday into Wednesday, then weak surface high
pressure to our west should gradually get closer. Another upper-
level trough may then toss low pressure our way Friday.

For Tuesday and Wednesday...A large closed low centered across the
Great Lakes Tuesday is forecast to gradually pivot eastward and
cross the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions Wednesday. The cyclonic
flow and associated shortwaves rotating around the parent closed low
will combine with cold air aloft to generate some showers. The
somewhat better coverage in showers Tuesday, especially in the
afternoon to early evening, may be across our western zones which
are closer to the closed low center. The main closed low then shifts
across our region to start Wednesday, and with the core of the cold
air aloft in place some additional showers could develop through the
day before ending in the evening. There will be a notable breeze
each day especially from each late morning to late afternoon and
this will add to the chill. The presence of the upper-level trough
and cold air aloft should promote quite a bit of clouds especially
during the day when surface heating is maximized.

For Thursday and Friday...The upper-level trough is forecast to
finally weaken some and shift off the Northeast coast Thursday with
some weak ridging arriving in its wake. This will result in height
rises taking place and therefore some warming occurring. Weak
surface high pressure is currently forecast to be gradually
approaching from the west, however some guidance shows the next
upper-level trough in the Midwest potentially tossing more organized
energy faster our way. If this were to occur then surface low
pressure could arrive in our area Friday. The pattern evolution
during this time frame is less certain given low confidence in the
timing and amplification of this next upper-level trough. As of now,
included low chance PoPs for showers Friday.

.AVIATION /04Z SATURDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...
The following discussion is for KPHL, KPNE, KTTN, KABE,
KRDG, KILG, KMIV, KACY and surrounding areas.

Rest of Tonight...Expect most sites to remain IFR with low
clouds and rain. Visibility may drop to 2-3 SM in embedded +RA.
E to NE winds 10 to 20 kts with gusts to 25 kt, higher along
the immediate coast. LIFR conditions possible closer to
daybreak, but low confidence in coverage and duration of any
sub-IFR ceilings, so kept it for KMIV/KACY for now. Moderate
confidence overall.

Saturday...Low conditions with IFR or LIFR CIGS during the
morning with little improvement expected during the day. Most of
the rains will end by midday, so VSBY should recover to VFR most
sites after the early to mid-morning. NE to E winds expected 10
to 15 kts early then N to NE winds for the afternoon.
Low/medium confid.

Outlook...

Saturday night...IFR ceilings probable with MVFR visibilities and
some drizzle possible. Northeast or east winds around 5 knots. Low
confidence.

Sunday...IFR conditions probable as rain overspreads the region,
especially in the afternoon and evening. Northeast winds 5-10 knots
becoming east-southeast 10-15 knots with gusts to around 25 knots,
then shifting to southwest and west at night as the rain gradually
ends. Low confidence.

Monday...Sub-VFR conditions possible early, otherwise VFR. Westerly
winds around 15 knots with gusts up to 25 knots, diminishing to
around 10 knots at night. Some showers possible, mainly in the
afternoon. Moderate confidence.

Tuesday and Wednesday...Mostly VFR ceilings. Some showers possible,
mainly each afternoon. Southwest to west winds 10-15 knots with
gusts 20-25 knots each day, diminishing each night. Moderate
confidence.

The Gale Warning remains in effect for all ocean waters and the
Delaware Bay. Headlines will gradually come down from south to
north as the stronger winds shift farther north. The end time
of the warnings was sped up to account for 34 kt gusts ending a
littler sooner than earlier forecasts. Rains and fog overnight
then diminishing Saturday morning. SCA flags expected after the
Gales come down. Rough seas developing this evening and
continuing overnight.

.TIDES/COASTAL FLOODING...
A low pressure system is expected to bring a period of strong
onshore winds through early Saturday morning. However, as we are
about halfway between a new moon and a full moon, astronomical
tides are running low. Therefore, only spotty minor coastal
flooding is expected a result of the onshore winds.

The greatest threat for any coastal flooding is with the high
tide late tonight/early Saturday morning and along the Delaware
Bay coast of Delaware where funneling along the bay may enhance
the onshore winds. Spotty minor coastal flooding is also possible
along the Atlantic Ocean coast of New Jersey, particularly
along the coasts of Atlantic and Cape May counties.
