.SYNOPSIS...
One area of low pressure will affect the area through the day today
with a second low pressure system affecting the area Sunday as it
moves northward from the Carolinas towards northeast
Pennsylvania. This system lifts north of the region by Monday
however an upper level low will linger nearby through midweek.
High pressure then approaches from the north Thursday into
Friday.

&&

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TONIGHT/...
Forecast is on track through the early afternoon here with only
minor adjustments made. Seeing some breaks in the clouds in
Delmarva and far South Jersey, but for the most part, it remains
a drizzly and dreary day.

Previous full discussion...

A deep upper trough across the Northern Plains will dig into
the Great Lakes and quickly develop into a closed low into the
day on Saturday. Low pressure at the surface, responsible for
the rain on Friday and Friday night, will continue sliding
northwest through the Great Lakes and ultimately wrap up and
occlude under the upper low. Expect that as the low pulls
further north, we will gradually lose forcing for ascent and
rain will begin to diminish. Enough dry air should work its way
in across most of Delmarva to result in a dry period, with even
some breaks in the clouds, for Saturday afternoon. Elsewhere
further north, dry air will work in aloft, but better lingering
low- level moisture with onshore flow will maintain the low
cloud cover. Some showers will likely linger as well, mainly
north and east of Philadelphia metro, into the early afternoon
aided by isentropic ascent and a band of 850 mb frontogenesis.
All in all, it will be a rather gloomy day, but despite the
cloud cover, still do expect highs to reach into the upper
50s/low 60s for most with veering wind profiles with height
indicative of warm advection and increasing 850 mb temperatures.
It's possible that southern Delmarva may reach the 70 degree
mark if cloud cover breaks enough in the afternoon.

Saturday night, forecast soundings show inversion heights dropping
to near 900 mb, but with onshore flow prevailing and no boundary
layer mixing, low-level moisture will remain trapped near the
surface and maintain the low cloud cover overnight into Sunday
morning. As a result, don't see temperatures dropping too much
overnight, likely holding in the low to mid 50s.

.SHORT TERM /SUNDAY THROUGH MONDAY NIGHT/...
For Sunday, the second of two low pressure systems will affect the
area as deepening low pressure system moves northward through the
day from the Carolinas towards NE PA. This will occur in
response to a strong shortwave pivoting around an upper level
low over the Midwestern States. This will lead to another wet
day and the difference compared with the first system is that
there will be a bit more instability in play as the triple
points moves over Delmarva and southern NJ with low level flow
from the S/SE. Expect rain/showers to move in southwest to
northeast through the morning into the early afternoon and it's
worth noting, precip could come through in several rounds with a
first round moving in during the morning with heavier
rain/showers moving in by late day as the system draws closer.
The first system has brought a general 1-2 inches of rain so far
to much of the area with 2-4+ inches over parts of Delmarva.
This second low will once again tap into rich moisture with
PWATs of 1.25+ inches or so and this combined with some
instability could lead to heavier rates, especially by late day
as mentioned. The good news is the system will be a bit more
progressive but still, expect another 1 to 1.5 inches of rain on
top of increasingly saturated ground with locally higher
amounts possible. For this reason, flooding around urban, poor
drainage, and low lying areas will be a threat with even a risk
of localized flash flooding...especially if heavier amounts fall
over the urban corridor. Given the instability, especially
aloft, we continue to mention chances for thunder and it's worth
noting that the wind field and shear is quite strong with
guidance indicating potential for winds of 40-50 knots as low as
925 mb. The limiting factor though for severe weather will be
that most of this instability will elevated. However by late
day, potential exists for some surface based instability to
make it in over parts of Delmarva and southern NJ near and south
of the triple point and for this reason, there's at least some
potential for severe weather here. The Storm Prediction Center
has in fact expanded the MARGINAL risk for severe weather to
include most of Delmarva and extreme southern NJ. The biggest
threat looks to be damaging winds.

Expect highs Sunday mainly in the low to mid 60s except 50s over the
southern Poconos and upper 60s to near 70 over southern Delmarva.

The heaviest, steadiest precipitation quickly comes to an end west
to east through Sunday evening as the cold front and occlusion
sweeps through but the lagging upper level low will linger across
the low Great Lakes through the remainder of the short term period.
This will lead to considerable cloudiness around for Monday near and
especially north of the urban corridor with diurnally driven showers
developing by afternoon. Temperatures will also remain cool for this
time of year with highs mainly in the upper 50s to low 60s. The
general trend should be for these diurnally driven showers to
diminish after sunset Monday evening.

.LONG TERM /TUESDAY THROUGH FRIDAY/...
Overall, conditions remain cool and at times unsettled for the long
range as the area remains under the influence of an upper level
low through at least midweek. Tuesday and Wednesday will be
similar to Monday with considerable cloudiness around and
diurnally driven scattered showers developing by afternoon then
diminishing after sunset. Temperatures remain cool with highs
mainly in the upper 50s to around 60 and lows mainly ranging
from the upper 30s to mid 40s.

The center of the upper level low should finally shift east of the
area next Thursday into Friday however there will still be spokes of
energy pivoting around it into the area keeping at least a slight
chance of showers in the forecast. Right now, Thursday looks to be
the driest day. Temperatures will start to moderate but will still
remain a bit below average.

.AVIATION /18Z SATURDAY THROUGH THURSDAY/...
The following discussion is for KPHL, KPNE, KTTN, KABE,
KRDG, KILG, KMIV, KACY and surrounding areas.

Today...IFR to LIFR CIGs expected with little improvement
through the day. Some lingering scattered light showers are
possible through most of the day as well with MVFR/IFR VSBYs.
Easterly winds 10-15 knots with gusts to 25 knots will relax
this afternoon to 5-10 knots. Moderate confidence.

Tonight...IFR conditions expected to continue. Some light
drizzle possible. Easterly winds 5-10 knots. Moderate
confidence.

Outlook...

Sunday...IFR conditions probable as rain overspreads the region,
especially in the afternoon and evening. Embedded thunder
possible as well. Northeast winds 5-10 knots becoming east-
southeast 10-15 knots with gusts to around 25 knots, then
shifting to southwest and west at night as the rain gradually
ends. Moderate confidence.

Monday...Generally expect a broken deck of low VFR, though there
could be times of MVFR, especially at RDG and ABE. Southwest
winds around 10-15 knots with gusts 20 to 25 knots, diminishing
to around 10 knots at night. Some showers possible, mainly in
the afternoon. Moderate confidence.

Tuesday and Wednesday...Mostly VFR ceilings. Some showers possible,
mainly each afternoon. Southwest to west winds 10-15 knots with
gusts 20-25 knots each day, diminishing each night. Moderate
confidence.

.MARINE...
A Gale Warning remains in effect for the New Jersey ocean waters
from Sandy Hook to Little Egg Inlet through 4PM Saturday where
winds 15-25 knots with gusts to 35 knots and seas 6-10 feet are
expected to continue through Saturday afternoon. When the Gale
Warning expires, a Small Craft Advisory will be needed for these
zones. By Saturday evening, for all ocean zones, expect winds
to decrease to 10-15 knots for a brief period with seas 6-8
feet. For the Delaware Bay, the Small Craft Advisory has been
dropped for today. Sub-SCA conditons are expected for the rest
of today, but a new Small Craft Advisory was issued beginning
tomorrow at noon as winds will pick up once again.

Outlook...

Sunday...Strong Small Craft Advisory conditions with potential
for Gales. Winds east to southeast eventually shifting to
southwest late day.

Monday through Tuesday...Small Craft Advisory conditions likely
due to winds gusting up to 25 knots and seas remaining around 5
feet.
