.SYNOPSIS...
Strong low pressure over Quebec this evening will continue to move
northeast through Tuesday. A cold front will cross the area
overnight. High pressure well to the west will gradually build
over the Middle Atlantic this week then move offshore during the
weekend. A system may affect the area for the start of next
week.

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TUESDAY/...
Colder but rather humid air circulating around the deep storm
well to the NE. Bands of low/mid level clouds and occasional
showers across NY/wrn PA. As the upper trough crosses the region
later tonight some lighter showers rain/snow are possible for
the northern/western areas. Temperatures are marginal for any
snow accums, but the higher elevations could (perhaps) pick up
to a quarter inch. Kept the slight chc/small chc pops in the fcst
with some minor areal tweaks. The 18Z NAM seems to have picked up
on the dynamics/moisture across NE Pa/North NJ. Lows tonight mostly
in the low/mid 30s. Winds will decrease but remain 5 to 10 mph mostly
from the W/NW.

.SHORT TERM /TUESDAY NIGHT THROUGH WEDNESDAY NIGHT/...
The midweek period will feature quiet, benign weather, with
generally clear skies and easing winds. Surface high pressure will
continue to build eastward and expand across the just about the
entire eastern half of the country Tuesday night into Wednesday. An
upper-level trough associated with the Sunday/Monday strong coastal
storm will continue to weaken and push off the East Coast by Tuesday
night, taking any source for forcing for precipitation or moisture
for cloud cover along with it. Cool northwest flow in the low levels
will advect very dry air in Tuesday night into Wednesday, with
dewpoints dropping into at least the low 20s, with some teens likely
mainly northwest of I-95. Easing winds and clear skies will favor
good radiational cooling conditions, with some of the coldest
morning lows set for Wednesday morning; low 20s forecast in many
areas outside of the urban corridor, and even some upper teens
possible near the Poconos or the deepest part of the NJ pine
barrens. Would not rule out some patchy shallow fog given very
saturated ground conditions, but drying winds on Tuesday and
continued dry air pushing in should limit the fog from being more
than just that.
Wednesday will be a sunny, dry day with highs mainly in the 40s, and
fairly light winds. As mid and upper-level ridging builds in across
the eastern part of the country as well, warmer air will begin to
push in aloft, modifying temperatures and making for more stable
atmospheric conditions. Clear skies will continue into Wednesday
night, setting us up for another chilly night, but lows by Thursday
morning will tend a few degrees milder than the past night as the
airmass gradually modifies.

.LONG TERM /THURSDAY THROUGH MONDAY/...
High pressure at the surface and an upper ridge that build in for
the midweek period will continue for the end of the week and then
into the weekend. A weak system may bring some cloudiness for a time
Sat./Sun. but no precipitation is expected. The next chance for
rains (most likely) will be later Monday (Christmas) when we will
have some chance pops in the forecast.
Much like the past few weeks, cool or near normal temperatures for
the end of the week, then above normal readings expected for the
weekend and into Monday. We could have some upper 40s/low 50s for
highs on Christmas. If so, that would be 4 to 6 degrees above normal
for the last week of December.

.AVIATION /04Z TUESDAY THROUGH SATURDAY/...
The following discussion is for KPHL, KPNE, KTTN, KABE, KRDG, KILG,
KMIV, KACY and surrounding areas.
Tonight...VFR expected at all terminals. Winds diminish to
mostly W around 10 to 12 kt. Isolated chance of a snow shower
at KABE, otherwise remaining dry at all terminals. Moderate
confidence.
Tuesday...VFR expected. SW winds 10 to 15 KT early becoming
northwesterly 10 to 20 mph with gusts up to 30 mph. Moderate
confidence.
Outlook...
Tuesday night through Wednesday night...VFR conditions. Some patchy
shallow fog with localized MVFR at some of the more rural TAF sites
like RDG/MIV, perhaps even ABE or TTN cannot be completely ruled out
early Wednesday morning. Otherwise expect clear skies and light NW
winds generally 5-10 kt; lighter nights/mornings.
Wednesday through Saturday...VFR. W to NW winds 5 to 15 kt. High
confidence.

.MARINE...
Small Craft Advisory conditions will continue as winds diminish
and gradually become W around 15-20 kt with gusts up to 25 kt.
Seas likewise will gradually lower as well between 10-14 feet.
Outlook...
Tuesday night through Wednesday night...Small Craft Advisories will
remain in effect for the entire period, mainly because seas from the
Sunday/Monday strong coastal storm will be slow to lower; 5-7 ft
early Wednesday, down to 4-6 ft by early Thursday. Winds will remain
NW, with some gusts to 25 kt Tuesday evening. Those winds will ease
to 10-15 kt for most of Wednesday.
Thu/Thu night/Friday... SCA seas continue on the ocean. Fair.
Friday night... SCA early then sub-SCA possible late. Fair.

.HYDROLOGY...
Active Flood Warnings are in effect, please continue to monitor
information from Law Enforcement, local media, and heed any warnings
in effect. Avoid flooded roadways and when safely possible please
pass along flood reports to the NWS.

.TIDES/COASTAL FLOODING...
Looking at available tidal guages in/around coastal Monmouth
and Ocean Counties, we have opted to extend the Coastal Flood
Advisory through 4 AM to account for the next high tide cycle
just after midnight tonight. This will mainly be for the back
bays of these counties for any water backed up in these areas.
After the early morning high tide cycle, water levels will
recede.
The Coastal Flood Advisory was also extended for Sussex County
(DE) as some minor flooding continues along the back bays. High
tide will occur early Tuesday morning, where then the water
levels should begin to recede.
