Greenville along the Perkiomen Creek had exceeded flood stage
of 5.0 feet and was still rising. Flooding is ongoing or

.SYNOPSIS...
Surface low pressure will continue to bring widespread rain to the
region this evening and into tonight. While this surface low will
continue to pull north of the region Monday, a lingering upper low
across the Great Lakes will keep cool and unsettled weather across
the region for much of the upcoming week.

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH MONDAY/...
A large swath of rain and scattered tstms is slowly ending
across the region, beginning south and west across the Eastern
Shores and pivoting north-northeastward across over the next few
hours. Additional rainfall of an inch or two possible as the
rain departs. A cold front will cross the area bringing an end
to the rains as winds shift to W or SW. Winds will increase thru
the evening and occasionally gust to around 30 mph. The flood
watch will be allowed to expire at 10pm, but some localized
urban and small stream flooding may be possible overnight.
On Monday, the low pressure system will have moved off the the NE
and we will be on the drier/cooler side of the system. A large upper
low will continue across the Great Lakes area. Clouds will develop
inland across the NW areas and at times extend down across the
Delaware Valley. Gusty winds will develop too from the West to
Southwest at 10 to 20 mph with a few gusts around 25 mph at times.

afternoon. Most of the showers will be across the southern Poconos
and into the Lehigh Valley/north NJ. Highs will range from the low
50s N/W to the low 60s for metro Philly and srn NJ.

.SHORT TERM /MONDAY NIGHT THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...
The vertically stacked closed low will be staying stubbornly close
to the region through the first half of the week. The main
consequences of this will be continued chances for rain and
temperatures staying below normal, especially with day time highs.
Stayed close to a blend of guidance with the timing of the PoPs. It
does not look to be a washout. There will be lulls in the rain
in between short wave troughs pivoting around the low. At this point,
the most likely time for any lull is late Tuesday into Wednesday
morning.
Another concern is overnight temperatures in the southern Poconos.
Both Monday night and Tuesday night, minimum temperatures are
forecast to be in the mid 30s. There is a small risk (20%) that
temperatures will get to freezing, but this will be dependent on
clouds clearing out, which is unlikely given the pattern. Even with
the current forecast temperatures, frost is unlikely (20%) as winds
should stay elevated enough to preclude frost development. Finally
given the temperature profiles, it is always worth considering if
precip will fall in any form other than rain. As mentioned earlier,
Tuesday night, precipitation is unlikely (20% or less). On Monday
night, saturated layer looks rather shallow suggesting that it
should be a cold rain as cloud tops may be too warm for ice crystal
development in clouds.

.LONG TERM /WEDNESDAY NIGHT THROUGH SUNDAY/...
In the upper levels, an omega blocking pattern will take place
across the CONUS/North America for most of the long range period. As
this type of pattern is slow to change while nudging somewhat
eastward, the eastern lobe of this pattern will persist over the
eastern part of the CONUS and our region. This means that
lingering troughing/upper level low pressure will be present
over the region through most of the long range, allowing for an
overall unsettled weather pattern to continue.
Multiple rounds of shortwave energy and troughs may transverse the
region from Wednesday night through the Saturday time frame before
surface high pressure over Canada slides southward thereafter. The
precipitation forecast will feature daily chances for showers
Wednesday night through Saturday, with the favored times being the
afternoon/early evening hours. Slight chance or chance PoPs are
included Wednesday night through Saturday.
With large upper level low pressure remaining over the region during
the duration of the long range, temperatures should remain below
normal through the period. Right now, any chance for frost during
the overnight periods looks low.

.AVIATION /02Z MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY/...
The following discussion is for KPHL, KPNE, KTTN, KABE, KRDG, KILG,
KMIV, KACY and surrounding areas.
Tonight...Brief break with MVFR conditions early this evening,
but another round of heavy showers and an isolated TSTM (mainly
south) will result in IFR conditions returning. Once the front
pushes through, expect improving conditions late tonight with
CIGS/VSBYS back to VFR soon after. Winds will shift to W and
increase to 15 to 20 kts with gusts close to 25 kts at times.
Medium confidence overall, but low confidence on exact timing of
frontal passage.
Monday...VFR expected with BKN VFR CIGS most areas much of the
day. A couple scattered showers (mostly KRDG/KABE) can't be
ruled out for the late morning/afternoon. No mention of these in
the TAFs attm. Gusty W/WSW winds 15 to 20 kts with gusts 25 kts
expected. Medium/High confid.
Outlook...
Tuesday...Predominantly VFR, but periods of MVFR ceilings possible
Tuesday night. Winds southwesterly and westerly 5 to 15 kt. Moderate
confidence.
Wednesday...Slight chance of lingering MVFR ceilings Wednesday
morning, but prevailing VFR ceilings expected. Chance (50%) of brief
MVFR visibility restrictions in SHRA. Winds shifting from W to NW 5
to 15 kt. Moderate confidence on the overall pattern, but low
confidence on any lingering MVFR ceilings.
Wednesday night...Sub-VFR possible with NW winds 10-15 kts. Moderate
confidence.
Thursday...Sub-VFR possible with NNW/N winds 10-15 kts. Moderate
confidence.
Thursday night...Sub-VFR possible with NNW/NW winds 5-10 kts.

.MARINE...
Low pressure that is strengthening and moving towards our waters
will continue to adversely affect the weather tonight. We'll
continue with the SCA flags and mention that some low-end Gale gusts
are probable too. Winds will be mostly E/NE into the early evening
before becoming somewhat light and variable as the low moves
overhead. As it pulls away later this evening, a W to SW flow
increasing to 15 to 20 kts is expected. Gusts to 30 kts will develop
too. Showers with a small chance for a thunderstorms through the
evening then more widely scattered showers after that. Fair Monday.
Outlook...
Monday night...winds are likely to stay below 25 kt. However,
elevated seas above 5 ft may linger on the coastal waters.
Tuesday...A brief period of wind gusts around 25 kt is possible,
along with lingering elevated 5 ft seas.
Tuesday night through Wednesday...Conditions (primarily for elevated
seas) should slowly subside below SCA criteria.
Wednesday night...SCA conditions possible.
Thursday through Friday...No headlines expected.

.HYDROLOGY...
The Weather Prediction Center has all of our area under a Slight
Risk for Excessive Rainfall.
The Flood Watch for the entire CWA continues until 10 PM. The
greatest QPF amounts will generally favor the central and N/W areas
but the lowest FFG remains for the S/E areas. The models are not
showing great agreement with where the highest amounts will be.
There has been a good deal of disagreement about the axis of
heaviest QPF for the past few cycles.

.TIDES/COASTAL FLOODING...
An onshore wind and an east southeast long period swell continue to
keep water from draining through the inlets along the coast of New
Jersey. The pattern is trapping water in Barnegat Bay. As a result,
a Coastal Flood Advisory remains in effect for Ocean County, New
Jersey until 10:00 PM to cover this evening's high tide. Moderate to
heavy rain may worsen the impacts of any tidal flooding.
As low pressure works its way slowly northward through our region
into this evening, the onshore wind is expected to lessen gradually
from south to north.
The astronomical tides are running low being that we are near the
first quarter phase of the moon. Therefore, no additional tidal
flooding issues are anticipated in New Jersey and Delaware, along
the tidal Delaware River or on the upper eastern shore of Chesapeake
Bay with this event.
