.SYNOPSIS...
An passing cold front is bringing breezy and gusty conditions
tonight through Wednesday and more seasonal temperatures for the
second half of the week before an incoming trough for the weekend.

.DISCUSSION...
Tonight through Thursday: The convective conditions over the Idaho
Panhandle and Northeast WA will continue into the evening before
calming. A potent cold front is approaching the region with upper
level clouds currently increasing West to East over the Inland
Northwest. Once the storms have diminished, winds will be the
concern through the Cascades Valleys and across the Basin. Through
10 PM, perpendicular valleys to the Cascade mountain range,
through the Wenatchee Valley, onto the Waterville Plateau, western
and south-central Columbia Basin will easily see wind speeds in
the 20-30 mph range and gusts 40-50 mph out of the west. Through
10pm the winds will strengthen and be the strongest. Over a 60%
chance of sustained winds over 30 mph in parts of Douglas and
Grant counties and over 30% chance in the Wenatchee area. As for
the Okanogan Valley, winds will be slightly muted thanks to the
terrain and orientation of this valley. Omak has nearly a 50%
chance of seeing sustained winds of 30 mph or more and 80-90%
chance of wind gusts over 40 mph. As the front moves rapidly to
the east by Wednesday morning, the gusty winds will blow through
the Palouse bringing gusts to 30-35 mph for locations from Spokane
to Pullman/Moscow.

Wednesday through Thursday: A flat ridge pattern will allow for
brief break from the active thunderstorms from the past several
days. Lingering rain showers threat will continue over Northeast WA
and North ID. Wednesday is expected to be the better day for showers
as probabilities for half an inch of rain are around 20-30%. Winds
will decrease through the day as the front exits the region.
Temperatures will dive behind the cold front for Wednesday with
most locations seeing a 15 degree drop from Tuesday. Highs will
be in the upper 60s and 70s. Lows will be in the upper 40s and
50s. /JDC

Friday through Tuesday: Ensembles are in good agreement of the
ridge flattening and shifting to the east as a low pressure
system moves out of the Gulf of Alaska. A weak front will move
through the region late Friday night/early Saturday morning. Winds
will increase Friday afternoon ahead of the front with gusts 15
to 25 mph...strongest across central WA Cascade gaps and
Waterville Plateau. As the trough approaches and then possibly
sits over the Pacific Northwest by the end of the weekend and
early next week...we will see breezy winds each afternoon and
early evening through the weekend, with Saturday seeing the
strongest winds with gusts 30 to 35 mph across portions of central
WA.

With the trough in the vicinity, or over the region...expect
temperatures to cool through the weekend. Friday will be the
warmest, with highs in the mid 70s to mid 80s. Then by
Sunday/Monday we will see highs in the 60s, which is about 10 to
15 degrees below average for mid June. Haven't been able to say
below average temps for awhile. This trough will also keep showers
going at times, especially across the mountains, extreme eastern
WA and the ID Panhandle. Quite a different Father's Day weekend
expected compared to our Mother's Day. /Nisbet

.AVIATION...
00Z TAFs: A strong cold front will bring increasing sustained and
gusty west-southwest winds through Wednesday morning. The
strongest winds will occur in Central Washington with gusts of
35-45 kts expected. Winds will weaken across Central Washington
late tonight, around 06z, and remain elevated in eastern
Washington into Wednesday morning. TAF sites are expecting winds
gusts into the mid 30s kts./JDC

At 325 PM PDT, Doppler radar was tracking strong thunderstorms along
a line extending from 21 miles northeast of Colville to 15 miles west
of Nordman. Movement was northeast at 35 mph.

HAZARD...Winds in excess of 30 mph and half inch hail.

IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around

         possible.
