.SYNOPSIS...
Temperatures will climb back into the 80s and low 90s through
Tuesday with additional chances for thunderstorms. A cold front
will bring breezy and gusty conditions Tuesday evening into
Wednesday and more seasonal temperatures for the second half of
the week before an incoming trough for the weekend.

.DISCUSSION...

Today and tomorrow:
Slow moving thunderstorm activity with small hail, gusty winds up to
40 mph, and heavy downpours is the main concern for today. There are
two regions to watch this afternoon: the Northern Mountains and the
Palouse/L-C Valley/Southern Panhandle. DCAPE values range from 600-
1000 J/kg supportive of gusty downdrafts. Storm motion vectors are
below 20 kt with nearly 200% of normal PWATs so flooding will be a
concern. Cloud tops continue to cool on IR imagery suggesting
further intensification is possible.

Models continue to show widespread wind gusts > 30 mph Tuesday
afternoon for places just east of the Cascades including the
southern Okanogan Valley, Waterville Plateau and western Columbia
Basin thanks to a tightening pressure gradient/cold frontal passage.
Moses Lake has a 50% chance of 45 mph gusts and Ephrata/Wenatchee
have a 70% chance. The probability for 55 mph gusts is less than 10%
for those spots. Ahead of the front in eastern Washington and the
northern Idaho Panhandle, there is a 30% chance of thunderstorms.
Again, main threats with the storms are small hail, gusty winds up
to 40 mph, and heavy downpours. Dry air behind the front will be
quite noticeable as our moisture finally gets scoured out.

Wednesday through Thursday: A flat ridge pattern will allow for
brief break from the active thunderstorms from the past several
days. Lingering rain showers threat will continue over Northeast WA
and North ID. Wednesday is expected to be the better day for showers
as probabilities for half an inch of rain are around 20-30%. Winds
will decrease as the Tuesday cold front exits the region.
Temperatures will be on a warming trend. Highs will be in the upper
70s and 80s. Lows will be in the upper 40s and 50s.

Friday through Sunday: Friday will start much like the Thursday. A
trough will begin to press into the Pacific Northwest and begin to
increase the moisture in the Inland Northwest. The moisture is not
expected to translate to rain through as the mountains have a 50-70%
probability of seeing a tenth of an inch, and 10-30% for lowland
areas. Winds will increase across the Basin with the incoming trough
with gusts peaking into the mid 20s MPH. Highs will dip with the
trough passage. Highs will slide into upper 60s and 70s. Lows will
be in the upper 30s and 40s. /JDC

00Z TAFs: VFR condtions will continue through the next 24 hours
with diurnally driven winds. Thunderstorms are currently moving
into PUW and LWS. Heavy rain, lightning and small hail expected
thru 02Z. GEG could see a rain shower through 02Z, accompanied
with some gusty outflow winds from the northwest or southeast.
Otherwise the main story is the winds that will be increasing
Tuesday aft 20Z. Strongest winds will be aft 00Z Wed.

...A strong thunderstorm will impact portions of east central Stevens
and northwestern Pend Oreille Counties through 430 PM PDT...

At 343 PM PDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm 22
miles northeast of Colville, or 48 miles northwest of Priest River,
moving southwest at 10 mph.

HAZARD...Winds in excess of 30 mph and half inch hail.

SOURCE...Radar indicated.

IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around
         unsecured objects. Minor damage to outdoor objects is
         possible.

Locations impacted include...
Little Pend Oreille Lakes Campground.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building.

Torrential rainfall is also occurring with this storm and may lead to
localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded
roadways.

Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm.
Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe
shelter inside a building or vehicle.
