Forecast for today appears to be on track. There is still some
lingering fog across the region, with vsby's mainly in the 1-4
mile range, both on land and over the marine area, so will let the

Conditions across the forecast area at 11z ranged from IFR/LIFR
east of the Alabama River to MVFR over northwestern portions of
the forecast area. Wild card in where the lower conditions have
been observed is a band of mid/upper level cloud cover cutting off
any additional radiational cooling. After this band moves east of
the area this morning, daytime heating will mix out conditions
temporarily to general upper MVFR/VFR. A weak front sagging south
across the area today will drop conditions back to general to low
end MVFR/IFR by this evening, and even lower overnight as
precipitation coverage increases over the area this afternoon
though tonight. Southerly winds of 5 to 10 knots are expected
ahead of the front, east to northeast around 10 knots behind.

A series of upper level shortwaves move northeast across the
Southeast through the Near Term. A surface cold front stretching
northeast across the northwestern portion of the forecast area
sags southeast across the forecast area in response. Southeast to
southerly flow south of the front will create isentropic upglide
rain showers, and with enough instability, both surface based
along and south of the front and elevated northwest, rumbles will
mix in. This area of precipitation will shift southeast with the
front, with the front stalling near the coast late tonight into
early Saturday.
There is still concern of water issues along and north of the front,
with a layer of flow perpendicular to the front. This layer is
relatively shallow (about 100mb) and weak (10-15 knots), though.
Will have to monitor, especially if some localities see multiple
storms. Do not feel the coverage will be great enough to warrant a
watch. Looking at strong to severe storms, instability is decent
today (sfc based capes along and south of the front around
1000J/kg), though wind shear coincident with the front or south is
meh (around 30kts) today. Helicities along the front are decent (0-
1km around 200 m^2/s^s +/-), mainly Saturday along and south of the
stalled front with instability greatly reduced due to rain cooling
and increased cloud cover. All in all, the chance of any strong to
severe storms is low, with strong winds the primary threat.
Fog development at this time remains a challenge, especially with
the westward extent. Areas along and east of the Alabama River have
generally dropped to 1/2sm or less, with this area encompassed by
the current dense fog advisory. A passing mid/upper level cloud deck
is helping to limit the western extent at this time, though with the
deck moving off, am expecting good radiational cooling to set in and
the dense fog will expand to the west from the current area. No
changes to the advisory is expected at this time.
With the onshore flow bringing continued swell to area beaches
combined with a large tidal cycle, a high risk of rip currents is
still possible through tonight. As the front stalls near the coast,
onshore swell decreases and the Rip Current risk decreases to
moderate for the weekend. /16

(Saturday night through Sunday night)

Rain chances will end from the north Saturday night as the cold
front moves into the marine area. This will maintain small rain
chances over the marine area through the weekend. Mostly dry
conditions expected inland as a cooler and drier airmass moves in.
Lows Saturday and Sunday nights will range from the low 50s
inland to mid and upper 50s near the coast. Highs on Sunday will
be in the low to mid 60s. /13
LONG TERM...
(Monday through Thursday)

Global models continue to remain inconsistent with the weather
pattern during the middle of next week. Both the ECMWF and GFS
develop a large upper low somewhere over the southeast and try to
form a sfc low over the northern Gulf. However, each run
continues to struggle on the placement of these features. For now,
we will continue to carry a 30 to 40 percent chance of showers
and storms and continue to monitor future models runs. /13

Light onshore flow becomes more variable late tonight/Saturday
as a front sags south to the coast and stalls. The front moves
south of the coast later Saturday into Saturday night as a passing
upper system moves off, and moderate to at times strong offshore
flow follows. Flow shifts to east to southeasterly, but remains
moderate to strong early in the week as high pressure moves east
of the area and a surface low develops off the Louisiana coast.
