A peak wind gust of 58 mph out of the SE was measured at the 
Yakutat airport at 512am followed by continued gusts in excess of 
around 50 mph, but not reaching high wind criteria. Winds will
slowly decrease through late Sunday night.

  down trees and power lines. Travel will be difficult,  
  especially for high profile vehicles.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Peak winds have consistently been above 60
  mph at the Hydaburg Seaplane Base. Strongest winds will shift
  eastward through the evening as they slowly ease below warning
  criteria.

  southern part of Prince of Wales Island, especially near 
  Hydaburg.

The strong gusty winds from Sunday and Sunday evening continue to
weaken are no longer gusting above 60 mph. Peak winds from the
event was over 70 mph at the Hydaburg Seaplane Base. Wind gust to
45 mph may continue into the early Monday morning.

.UPDATE...

.SHORT TERM...A strong weather system moves across the Gulf to
ring in the New Year. A deep mid 950 Mb low south of Kodiak Island
weakens and stays close to the Island while the front finally
pushes into the panhandle Sunday night. Strong winds with the
front will result in gusts to 50 or 55 mph for the communities of
Southeast Alaska. Several strong wind headlines have been posted
for Sunday and Sunday night.

The southerly flow pattern has also spread in some warmer air that
has been clearing pockets of colder air in valleys and working way
northward. Winds shifted southeast at Haines last evening and
caused the temperature to jump 9 degrees into the mid-30s. Colder
temperatures linger along northern stretches of the Haines
Highway and Klondike Highways, so some snow accumulations are
possible in those areas. Have tried to keep the amounts below
advisory levels. The heaviest precipitation this morning and
afternoon is centered on the Central and Northeast Gulf Coast the
focus of the frontal band shifts east of the panhandle through
Sunday afternoon. 24-hour rainfall totals for the panhandle are
expected to be 1 to 2 inches except up to 3 inches west of
Yakutat. Not expecting to see any flooding from this amount of
precipitation.

.LONG TERM.../Monday through Thursday night/...Precipitation from
the front discussed above will begin winding down at the start of
this extended range forecast period with rain occurring in most
locations. The next low will enter the south central Gulf on
Tuesday and track to the northwest towards Kodiak. The associated
gale force front will approach from the south Tuesday afternoon
or evening with the majority of the precipitation being along the
outer coast late Tuesday night or early Wednesday morning. Low
level warm air advection associated with this front should be
sufficient enough to keep the outer coast and southern inner
channels in rain. A gradual cooling trend beginning Tuesday will
make daytime snowfall increasingly likely with a transition from
rain to snow occurring earlier in the evenings such that by late
Thursday night very few if any sites will still be seeing rain. 24
hour snow totals for Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday ranging from
trace amounts to 3 inches with the greatest amounts along the
Haines Highway through Monday night.

.AVIATION.../ at 12z Issuance /...The incoming front is sliding
in from the the south and will keep ceilings and visibility low
due to the precipitation. Second, winds are a problem. LLWS, and
maybe turbulence, is widespread around SE AK this morning. These
conditions are likely to last through Sunday as the front tracks
through the panhandle.
