.SYNOPSIS...
The quiet weather pattern for the Mainland continues. Increasing
south jet stream winds will increase the Tanana Valley Jet as
well as the pressure gradient over the Interior which will
increase blowing and drifting snow. Otherwise, temps will also
moderate and warm in this pattern.

.DISCUSSION...

Upper Levels and Analysis...
There is a shortwave ridge over the Mainland and N Gulf of AK with
a trough over the N Bering Sea. There is a closed low over the
Gulf of AK with the front moving north towards the coast.
gradients are weak but offshore with northeast winds creating some
blowing and drifting snow over the Bering coast. The Tanana
Valley Jet has relaxed some but the gradient will increase again
tonight along with moderate chinook winds across the AK Range.

Model Discussion...
The weather models are in very good agreement as the pattern
switches to a more south flow aloft. Shortwave energy crossing the
AK Range tonight and Monday will bring in more clouds, chances for
snow, and an increased gradient near the AK Range across the
Hills. As the low lifts north the gradient will also increase
dramatically along the N Slope bringing possible blizzard
conditions.

Central and Eastern Interior...
Increasing clouds and winds will develop beginning tonight, with
moderating temps as well. The TVJ and AK Chinook winds will
increase into the 40 to near 50 mph range. NE winds over the
Hills will also increase to 40 mph with areas of blowing and
drifting snow. The best chances for snowfall will be from the
White Mountains north given the strong downslope flow farther
south.

West Coast and Western Interior...
Strong northeast winds will continue and shift to a more northerly
direction along the coast. This will continue gusts to 30-45 mph
with areas of blowing and drifting snow. Periodic snow chances
will mainly be relegated to the Yukon Delta and Norton
Sound/Seward Pen, but any amounts will be less than an inch. Local
areas of fog tonight will continue over the Seward Pen before
clearing out with increasing northerly winds.

North Slope and Brooks Range...
Mixed fog and snow flurries will persist until a strong front
lifts north late tonight and Monday, bringing increased easterly
winds and blowing and drifting snow. This will peak Monday night
over the eastern Arctic Coast with gusts into the 50+ mph range
and significant blowing snow, possibly with whiteout conditions.
Light north drainage winds in the Brooks Range will switch to
south winds Monday and Monday night with areas of local blowing
and drifting snow.

Extended Forecast Days 4-7...
Quite extended with weak pressure gradients, no significant cold
air, or significant snowfall as the storm pattern remains well to
the south. All the cold air will shift into Siberia so it should
be pretty "average".

Coastal Hazard Potential Days 3 and 4...None.
