.ANALYSIS AND UPPER LEVELS...
The Great Land remains underneath troughing aloft, which come as
no surprise to this forecaster. The troughing is broader at this
point stretching from the Northwest Territories through Alaska,
the Bering Sea and into the Pacific. There is one main center just
east of Norton Sound and another south of Adak/Atka. There is
another upper level low pressure over the western Chukchi Sea and
a strong jet diving southward.

At the surface, a 1034mb high sits over the northeastern Pacific
while weak low pressure stretches from the Chukchi southwestward
into the Gulf of Anadyr. The gradient is leading to broad
southwesterly flow over much of southern Alaska. Widespread clouds
exist underneath the trough, however, some improvement is
happening diurnally was the surface heats up and mixes.

.MODEL DISCUSSION...
Guidance is in pretty good agreement with the evolution of the
pattern. The two features models are tracking are a surface low
approaching the western Gulf of Alaska, and an upper low dropping
southward across the Bering Sea, the surface reflection with this
feature is not very strong. Overall, confidence is higher given
the good model agreement.

.AVIATION...
PANC...VFR conditions will persist. The evening will feature some
uncertainty whether the southeasterly Turnagain Arm will prevail
or the southwesterly up-Inlet flow will prevail. As long as these
two features are converging, there will be showers popping along
that boundary and occasional ceilings below 5000 ft.

.SHORT TERM FORECAST SOUTHCENTRAL ALASKA (Days 1 through 3)...

Some clearing in the Copper River Basin this afternoon may allow
for some convective development and thunderstorm activity along
the Alaska Range, with similar potentials tomorrow afternoon. The
focus then turns to an approaching North Pacific system looking to
push into the southern Gulf of Alaska by late Wednesday afternoon.
The associated front strengthens as it moves towards the North
Gulf Coast, with widespread small craft winds and an area of gales
by Thursday morning. Kodiak is expected to receive the bulk of
the precipitation, with moderate to heavy rainfall beginning early
Wednesday afternoon and persisting through Thursday night. Rain
will progress northwards and fall along the eastern Kenai
Peninsula and western Prince William Sound by Wednesday night. The
system will reorient and shift eastward towards Southeast Alaska
on Friday.

.SHORT TERM FORECAST SOUTHWEST ALASKA/BERING SEA/ALEUTIANS (Days
1 through 3)...

An arctic low pressure system will push a front south into the
northern Bering late Tuesday into Wednesday. This will increase
winds from the southwest and bring cooler temperatures to the
northwestern coast. A few areas will receive rain, including the
Pribilofs and Nunivak Island Wednesday afternoon. A separate
system will move north across the AKPen up to Bethel late
Wednesday into Thursday, bringing easterly wind and more
widespread rain.

.LONG TERM FORECAST (Days 4 through 7: Saturday through Tuesday)...

Ensembles show a stationary low offshore of Siberia and a ridge of
high pressure over the Gulf of Alaska in place through the long
term period, beginning Saturday and lingering through Tuesday of
next week. Inland of the coast, general high pressure should be
situated over Southcentral Alaska with some ridging extending into
Southwest Alaska as well. Deterministic models want to take and
occluded North Pacific low, and its associated front, up the
Aleutian Chain through the weekend before high pressure over
interior Alaska redirects the low northward and toward the Seward
Peninsula by early next week. There is the potential for the
development of a triple point low on the Pacific side of the
Alaska Peninsula during the same time period. Models keep high
pressure over interior Alaska strong enough so that should a
triple point low develop, it gets redirected eastward and away
from the northern Gulf.

Ultimately, there is high confidence that the Aleutian Chain will
remain under settled conditions over the weekend and potentially
into early next week. This would keep showery conditions over the

Chain during the extended period. By early next week, the occluded
front moves into Southwest Alaska, which, despite less confidence,
would allow the region to see an above normal chance for
precipitation as well as cooler temperatures Monday and Tuesday.
Finally, high pressure over Southcentral may finally bring
seasonably normal conditions and temperatures to Southcentral. The
caveat being that models have wanted to show high presure building
into the region for multiple weeks now, each time not exactly
verifying. Thus, low but increasing confidence exists that
Southcentral will be drier and warmer during the long term period.
