.SYNOPSIS...
High pressure will gradually exit the region early this week, but
not before yielding another day of very warm and dry conditions
with temperatures at least 10 degrees above normal today. A
weather system will then move through the area Tuesday and
Wednesday bringing locally windy conditions, but only minimal
chances for light precipitation mainly over the Arizona high
country. Temperatures will also retreat back to near normal levels
during the latter half of the week before warming again by the
weekend.

.DISCUSSION...
Today will mark the sixth day in a row of this warm streak with
Phoenix expected to hit its fifth day in a row of 80 degrees or
more and Yuma and El Centro each expecting their sixth day in a
row. Comparing this warm streak to climatological records during
the first half of February, it will just break into the top 10
with streaks in 2015 and 2016 easily beating out the current
streak. Despite the high pressure ridge beginning to break down
today, the air mass in place will basically not change allowing
high temperatures again this afternoon around 80-82 degrees in
the Phoenix area to 83-85 degrees in Yuma and El Centro.
The unseasonably warm temperatures will begin to drop off on
Tuesday as a North Pacific upper level trough quickly dives south
southeastward through the Pacific Northwest later today before
reaching our region later on Tuesday. There has been a subtle
shift back to the west with the latest model run showing the low
center tracking more along the California/Nevada line before
bottoming out across central Arizona Tuesday night/early
Wednesday. This shift still does not change the anticipated
limited moisture with the system, but with a track across central
Arizona instead of northern portions of the state NBM PoPs Tuesday
night from Phoenix eastward are about 5% higher than the previous
forecast.
Gusty winds and the potential for patchy blowing dust are likely
to be the biggest impacts on Tuesday as model guidance continues
to show good potential for wind gusts of 30-45 mph across
southeast California, locally higher possible across portions of
Imperial County. A Wind Advisory has been issued for much of this
area from Tuesday morning through early Tuesday evening. Into
Arizona, winds will also become breezy to windy at times Tuesday
afternoon, but wind gusts should mostly stay in a 25-35 mph range.
Can't rule out some patchy blowing dust across south-central
Arizona, but it should mainly be confined to the dust corridor
across central Pinal County. As the cold front progresses west to
east across the area Tuesday evening into the early overnight
hours, gusty winds will continue shifting out of the west
northwest, but speeds will drop off to the point gusts will
mostly be below 30-35 mph.
The upper level low center will be exiting into New Mexico by
Wednesday afternoon with the colder air mass behind the system
keeping daytime highs around five degrees below normal. A slow
warming trend is then expected for the rest of the week as another
high pressure ridge off the West Coast somewhat influences our
region. However, there is likely to be at least one weak but dry
disturbance coming down the eastern periphery of the high pressure
ridge keeping our upper level heights fairly dampened. This
should limit our warming trend and keep high temperatures in the
low to mid 70s on Friday and mid to upper 70s over the weekend.
Model ensembles then somewhat agree on another more significant
trough dropping out of the Northern Pacific into the Western U.S.
at some point early next week. It is still too early to tell if
this would present much of a chance for precipitation across our
region.

South-Central Arizona including KPHX, KIWA, KSDL, and KDVT and
Southeast California/Southwest Arizona including KIPL and KBLH:
No aviation concerns through the period. Mainly light winds will
favor normal diurnal cycles. Occasional light and variable winds
will also be seen, especially during the typical wind switch
times. Skies will remain clear to mostly clear only FEW high
cirrus.

Wednesday through Sunday:
A cooler air mass will be in place early in the period after a
weather system exits to the east. This will provide for a couple
days of near normal temperatures and periods of breezy winds. Weak
high pressure is then expected to bring a slight warming trend
into the weekend with temperatures rising to slightly above normal
by Saturday. After a brief increase in humidities on Wednesday,
readings will lower again later in the week with minimum readings
back to around 10% starting Friday. Overall light winds are
anticipated through the latter half of the period, but some breezy
winds may return by Sunday.
