.SYNOPSIS...
A weak cold front will approach the region today. The front is
expected to stall and fall apart across or near our region
through the weekend. Surface high pressure will once again build
early next week. A potentially stronger cold front could track
through our region in the middle portion of next week.

&&

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TONIGHT/...
930 AM update: No major changes to the forecast at this time. That
said, tricky forecast for today! Deep layer moisture has increased
with much of the area seeing mainly cloudy skies as of mid morning.
Daytime heating combined with surface trough and weak
disturbances aloft should help develop at least some showers
and storms by later this afternoon (mainly after 4 PM) into this
evening but confidence is low regarding how widespread the
coverage will be, particularly of any heavier storms. The cloud
cover could be a limiting factor. Areas of clearing though this
morning over Delmarva so it's possible this could end up being
the area that becomes more active. Continuing to hold off on any
Flood Watch issuance at this time for the reasons mentioned
above. Previous discussion follows below.

The greatly increased cloud cover and moisture should keep
temperatures a bit lower today compared to Thursday, but
humidity will mostly make up for it, so much of the heat
advisory from yesterday remains in place today. For the most
part, this morning will be dry, with lingering showers mostly
dissipating and clouds breaking up a bit. We don't have the dry
air to enhance severe risk today, but we have much more moisture
with PW's expected to be near 2 inches across much of the CWA
by late afternoon. Coupled with the lee side trough and
approaching shortwave, plus insolation which will likely lead to
1-2 thousand J/kg CAPE, and we'll likely see another round of
storms. This round looks more likely to overspread most of the
region, so have likely POPs for most late this afternoon and
this evening, though it certainly won't be raining all the time.
When it is raining, however, it could be quite heavy.
Otherwise, think that the diminished DCAPE should keep the
severe risk more limited though isolated severe storms wouldn't
be surprising. As mentioned, clouds and moisture will keep
highs lower today, with low 90s more common. Dew points will
remain well into the 70s however, so heat indices for many will
push back above 100.

Best timing for storms for most look like near sunset, but with
the trough lingering to the west (possibly cutting off) and
plenty of moisture available, kept chance pops thru the night.
The front itself, however, never really makes it here, stalling
to our north in New York State. This means lows will stay soupy,
with 70s common, and some patchy fog could develop late.

.SHORT TERM /SATURDAY THROUGH SUNDAY NIGHT/...
What remains of the cold front stalled near our region will
wash out through the weekend. With no significant cold air
advection, we should continue to see temperatures near or
slightly above normal. On Saturday, persistent cloud cover
should help keep air temperatures mostly in the upper 80s to
around 90, which should be just low enough to preclude tipple
digit heat index values. However, that doesn't appear to be the
case on Sunday as more solar insolation should result in high
temperatures in the lower 90s, especially along the coastal
plains. The big question mark with heat index values though is
the dew points. Most of our high heat southwesterly flow days
have seen a high bias in model dewpoints during the afternoon.
Even accounting for that, it still appears that heat index
values on Sunday could once again top 100 degrees especially
along and southeast of the I-95 corridor. Given the uncertainty
in the dew point forecast, have chosen to hold off on extending
the advisory at this time. However, we will be keeping a close
eye on the guidance trends with this period.

On Saturday, the Bermuda high is expected to retrograde
slightly further east, resulting in continued frontolysis of the
stalled front, and even weaker mid an upper level flow over our
region. As has been the case with this pattern, model soundings
indicate a moderate CAPE/low shear environment, which tend to
favor pulse, short-lived convection. That being said, if enough
storms develop along the front or another differential heating
boundary (like the sea breeze), we could see additional storm
development on the leading edge of outflows (similar to what we
saw Thursday. The primary hazards look to be heavy rain and to a
lesser extent, gusty winds.

On Sunday, with the front likely washed out, and little in the
way of any other synoptic scale lift, coverage of storms should
be more limited, but a similar sounding profile to Saturday.
Once again, pulse convection is expected to be the primary mode.

&&

.LONG TERM /MONDAY THROUGH THURSDAY/...
Monday, and likely continuing for much of the day on Tuesday,
should be a continuation of the hot and humid pattern that we
are currently in. Dangerously hot conditions, with heat index
values near or above 100 degrees (with the exception of the
higher terrain of the southern Poconos/NW NJ) are expected.

One point of uncertainty with the early week heat is how
quickly the next cold front will arrive. The latest GFS actually
sped up the timing of the front, now depicting it arriving in
our region during the day on Tuesday. This pattern, especially
coming on the heals of a persistent Bermuda High, would tend to
favor a slower solution. So have stayed close the previous
forecast, with higher heat during the day on Tuesday, and
favoring rain chances Tuesday night into Wednesday.

Most guidance depicts this front progressing completely south
of our region, resulting in temperatures near to slightly below
normal starting Wednesday and decreasing precipitation chances
starting Friday as a surface high builds in from the northwest.
This would be much farther south that what we have seen with
recent cold fronts, so will have to see if this trend in the
guidance holds over the next few days.

.AVIATION /14Z FRIDAY THROUGH TUESDAY/...
The following discussion is for KPHL, KPNE, KTTN, KABE, KRDG, KILG,
KMIV, KACY and surrounding areas.

Today through tonight...VFR this morning then intervals of sub-
VFR possible late afternoon and tonight with showers and
thunderstorms. Patchy fog may be a concern late tonight. Winds
generally southerly to southwesterly 5-10 kts with a few gusts
approaching 20 kts.

Outlook...

Saturday through Monday...Prevailing VFR conditions. TSRA could
result in brief restrictions to MVFR, primarily in the
afternoon and evening each day. Storms will be mostly isolated,
so low confidence if any will directly affect a TAF site. SW
winds 5 to 15 kt, but sea breeze each afternoon could shift
winds more to S at KACY.

Tuesday/Tuesday night...Starting VFR. Increasing chance for
ceiling and visibility restrictions as chance for storms
increases late Tuesday into Tuesday night. SW winds 5 to 15 kt,
may become NW late Tuesday night. Low confidence.

&&

.MARINE...
Sub-SCA conditions prevail today and tonight. South to southwest
winds increase to 10-15 kts this aft and eve with gusts to 20
kts. Seas building to 2-3 feet. Scattered late aft and
especially evening thunderstorms may require special marine
warnings.

Outlook...

Saturday through Tuesday...winds and seas should stay below SCA
criteria through the period. However, afternoon and evening
storms each day may result in locally higher winds and waves.

Rip currents...

For both today and Saturday, south/southwest winds around 10-15
kts with gusts up to 20 kts prevail. Breaking waves around 1-2
ft with a medium period south to southeast swell. This should
result in a LOW risk of rip currents along the coast.
