.SYNOPSIS...
A weak cold front will approach the region tonight. The front is
expected to stall and fall apart across or near our region through
the weekend. Surface high pressure will build early next week. A
stronger cold front will track through our region during the middle
portion of next week with an additional cold front expected the
latter part of the week.

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH SATURDAY/...
Interesting afternoon taking shape so far. At the surface, a
weakening cold front remains over the lower Great Lakes with a
surface trough extending from New England south and west into NE PA
and NJ. This feature along with diurnal heating and terrain features
has helped fire an area of heavy thunderstorms over the southern
Poconos with a separate area of storms over southern DE. In between,
not too much going on as a remnant MCV aloft has been moving through
and helping stabilize conditions. However skies are clearing so
instability should be building here into the late afternoon.

As we go through the late afternoon into this evening, expect
isolated to scattered storms to continue popping up with
showers/storms likely becoming more widespread in the area after 21z
or so (5 PM) from west to east. This should occur as another area of
showers/storms and associated outflow boundaries moves eastward from
Virginia / western MD / central PA. Expect places will see
showers/storms moving through into this evening and given PWATs
around 2 inches and very weak flow aloft flash flooding remains the
biggest threat. This is especially true around the urban corridor.
There is still a threat for locally severe storms with damaging
winds but limiting factor for this is low shear which will tend to
mitigate storm organization. Storm Prediction Center still carrying
a Marginal Risk for severe storms over SE PA, southern NJ, and
Delmarva but greatest threat appears to be over Delmarva where ML
CAPES currently exceed 2000 j/kg.

Showers and thunderstorm activity could last through a good portion
of this evening however the severe threat should generally diminish
with time after sunset. However hydro could still be a threat beyond
this time. Activity should further diminish overnight but chances
will remain for lighter scattered showers due to weak impulses
moving through aloft and deep layer moisture remaining over the area
due to lack of any real flow. In fact the cold front referenced
above will continue to just fizzle out to our north. Otherwise it
will be another warm, muggy overnight with potential for some patchy
fog formation as well.

For Saturday, overall no big changes to the weather pattern. Surface
high remains over the western Atlantic keeping the moist southerly
flow in place with moisture persisting through the column due to
lack of much flow to help advect it out. The day should feature
considerable cloudiness with at least some sunny breaks or periods
of partial sunshine and increasing chances for scattered
showers/storms going into the afternoon period. Won't be an all day
rain event and many areas may not see anything. Highest chances for
showers/storms look to be near and north/west of the urban corridor
and it is possible there could be localized flooding as PWATs remain
high. Severe threat look low however. Highs are generally forecast
to be in the upper 80s to low 90s with max heat indices well into
the 90s to around 100...not necessarily quite to advisory criteria
for many places but close and given we expect higher values Sunday
we've extended the Heat Advisory through then.

&&

.SHORT TERM /SATURDAY NIGHT THROUGH MONDAY/...
What remains of the cold front, stalled near our region, will wash
out over the weekend. With no real good push of cooler air, highs on
both Sunday and Monday will rebound into the lower to middle 90s.
And with dewpoints in the lower to middle 70s, heat indices around
100 can be expected across our warmest locales. Overnight lows will
bottom out in the middle 70s across the urban corridor.

Shower/thunderstorm chances on both Sunday and Monday likely will be
driven by a lee side trough, differential heating, or sea and/or bay
breezes. Forcing is weak and there's not a front in play. So
thinking more pulse type convection vs.long duration, organized
convection.

&&

.LONG TERM /MONDAY NIGHT THROUGH FRIDAY/...
The stretch of 90s the majority of the area has been experiencing is
forecast to conclude on Tuesday as a trough begins to settle across
the region. Said trough will strengthen on Wednesday and persist
over the region through Friday.

There will be a lee side surface trough sloshing somewhere in the
forecast area on Tuesday. This will help produce scattered
convection. A cold front should move across the region on Wednesday.
This should create an environment for more organized convection.
More convection is expected on Thursday with the mid-level trough
overhead. Another cold front is expected around Friday. So the
region could see additonal convection the tail end of the week.

As mentioned, heat will remain across the region on Tuesday.
Afternoon highs will be around 90 or in the lower 90s. Heat indices
will be in the upper 90s to around 100. Wednesday through Friday
looks cooler with afternoon high temperatures maxing out in the
middle 80s.

.AVIATION /20Z FRIDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...
The following discussion is for KPHL, KPNE, KTTN, KABE, KRDG, KILG,
KMIV, KACY and surrounding areas.

Through tonight...Mainly VFR this afternoon with increasing chances
for showers and storms heading into this evening, especially from
around PHL southward. Any storms will be capable of producing sub-
VFR conditions. Storms diminish by the overnight with the potential
for some patchy fog developing, especially around MIV and RDG. Winds
generally southwest 5 to 10 knots. Moderate confidence.

Saturday...Mainly VFR but with chances for scattered afternoon
showers/storms that could result in brief restrictions. Best chances
for storms looks to be near and north/west of the urban corridor
sites. Winds generally southwest around 5 to 10 knots with some
higher gusts 15 to 18 knots possible in the afternoon.

Outlook...

Saturday night through Wednesday...Mainly VFR conditions. Terminals
could see restrictions each afternoon and evening resulting from
showers and/or thunderstorms. The showers and thunderstorms will be
isolated to scattered in nature, so confidence is on the low side
regarding any shower/thunderstorm hitting a specific terminal. SW
winds 5 to 15 kts Sunday through Tuesday. W winds 5 to 15 kts
on Wednesday.

.MARINE...
Sub SCA through Saturday with southwest winds generally around 10 to
15 knots. A few higher gusts to around 20 knots will be possible and
there will also likely be more showers/storms mainly over the
southern waters (DE Bay and ocean zones off DE and southern NJ) into
this evening. Any of these could produce brief wind gusts of 40+
knots. Seas generally 2 to 3 feet through Saturday.

Outlook...

Sunday... Sub-SCA conditions expected. South to southwest winds 5 to
15 kts. Gusts to 20 kts during the mid to late afternoon hours. Seas
2 to 3 ft.

Monday...Sub-SCA conditions expected. South to southwest winds 5 to
15 kts. Gusts to 20 kts during the mid to late afternoon hours. Seas
3 to 4 ft.

Tuesday...Sub-SCA conditions expected. South to southwest winds 5 to
15 kts. Seas 3 to 4 ft.

Wednesday...Sub-SCA conditions expected. West winds 5 to 10 kts.
Seas 2 to 3 ft.

Afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms each day may result
in locally higher winds and waves.

Rip currents...

For this afternoon and Saturday, south/southwest winds around 10-15
kts with gusts up to 20 kts prevail. Breaking waves around 1-2 ft
with a medium period south to southeast swell. This should result in
a LOW risk of rip currents along the coast.

stationary.
